Urgent Care RN Education and Skills
Walk-in clinics serve patients of all ages who have non-life-threatening conditions — from a sore throat and runny nose to a surface burn and sprained wrist. To be an urgent care RN, you’ll need a nursing degree from an accredited program. This means either an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN). Then you must pass the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed to practice. Some employers may prefer candidates with at least a year of experience in acute care or an emergency department.
Resume and Cover Letter for RN Urgent Care Jobs
Before you start a job search, make sure your RN resume reflects the requirements of each position to which you plan on applying. This can help you stand out from other applicants. For example, if a job is looking for an RN who is skilled in completing office labs such as urinalysis, strep screens, EKGs, and pulmonary function testing according to protocol, be sure to include these duties in the work experience section on your resume.
In your RN cover letter, write about how you effectively communicate the lab results to the provider, and then educate patients about their care plans. This shows the employer that your nursing skills are aligned with the needs of the job.

Emphasize your ability to get along with all types of personalities, your patience and compassion, and your organizational skills — all of these traits are highly valued in an urgent care RN.
