Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. Responsibilities* Under physician supervision, directs and coordinates care in the cardiac intensive critical care area. Care provided is for the adult patient population, including but not limited to NSTEMI/STEMI, advanced heart failure, pre- and post-heart transplant, and mechanical circulatory support. Some of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) duties include (not an all-inclusive list) Complete detailed histories and physicals, daily progress notes, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, and discharge orders/documentation. Responsible for primary Code Team Coverage in the Pavilion Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies. Order tests/prescribe medications. Present pertinent data to the medical staff and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout Cardiovascular Medicine, including thorough and accurate hand-offs. Procedures include point-of-care ultrasound for physical assessment, placement of arterial lines, central venous catheters, and placing NG tubes/dobhoff. Confer with attending physicians and collaborate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate and communicate clinical care needs both inpatient and outpatient, and internal/external care providers. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments Perform other related duties as required. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of medical principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws, and State and Federal laws/regulations. Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development. Adhere to all Michigan Medicine dress codes, personnel, and safety policies. Trauma ICU Bedside care in a Trauma ICU in a Level I Trauma Center Working with Dr. Patrick Greiffenstein, TICU director, Dr. Allison Smith, Trauma Medical Director, and all of the TICU attendings Clinical practice will include the full scope of an APP’s practice: bedside clinical care, documentation, procedures, professional billing, etc Integration into the UMCNO Trauma Service as a member of the Trauma Team GENERAL DUTIES Assessment: Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for any physiologic instability and utilizes data to formulate plan of care. Clinical Interventions: Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process. Analyzes the indications, contradictions, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions. Plan of Care: Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes. Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness. Facilitates the patients transition between and within health care settings. Education: Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members. Professional Development: Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, APPs, students and other health care providers. Patient Safety and Quality: Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Minimum Qualifications 3-5 years of critical care experience preferentially in a Cardiac Surgery setting; bachelor's degreerequired; master's degree preferred; successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program; current license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure; current ACLS and BLS certification.
