What you'll do The Registered Nurse Supervisor provides supervision to all clinical staff as well as staff from other departments working during specified shift; Assist the Director of Nursing in directing and supervising Nursing Services concerned with resident care; Staffing coordinator of his/her shift; Evaluate and direct nursing care of resident and must be constantly available to the nurses in charge of the various units and know of changes in condition of resident and the indicated action. Assist the Charge Nurse in assessment of needs, identification nursing diagnosis based on histories, nursing problems and solutions. Participates in nursing care committees as recommended by the Director of Nursing. Assist with writing periodic evaluations and discussing individual goals with the other supervisors and charge nurses. Work closely with the In-Service Director to provide programs suitable to geriatric care. Report problems within the Nursing Department to Director of Nursing with suggested solutions. Provide for continuity of care of all residents for three (3) shifts with report to Director of Nursing. Maintain standards of care for each resident in the Nursing Home. Assist charge nurse in assessment of needs, identification of nursing diagnosis based on histories, nursing problems and solutions of the resident. Correlate nursing plan with medical plan by reviewing written plan and checking orders. Interpret care to residents, families, nursing staff and other nursing home personnel. Participate in resident teaching programs. Participate in writing guidelines for care plans and defining policies and procedures. Discuss administrative and nursing care problems with other Nursing Home Supervisors and Director of Nursing. Keep informed of new medical and nursing measures as related to the needs of residents. Maintain an environment conducive to providing quality care. Makes rounds to observe effectiveness of care and institute immediate changes as necessary. Cooperate with attending physician during their visits Give care to resident who requires nursing judgment and skill. Demonstrate new nursing techniques. Maintain a system for communication of nursing care information. Participate in nursing care committees. Maintain adequate records. Report adequate nursing care information to other Nursing Home Supervisors and Director of Nursing. Use Nursing Care Plan as a guide for reports, rounds, and conferences. Share information with other professional disciplines, facility departments and community agencies. Suggest areas for study and participate in nursing research. Assume responsibility for teaching relative to planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Assist with the staffing of other shifts, as needed due to call-ins. Assign personnel to nursing team department on needs of residents and professional or technical competence of workers. Identify problems if nursing care and assist team in assignment of personnel. Report staffing needs to the Director of Nursing. Participate in orienting programs. Participate in In-Service Programs. Supervise and counsel personnel assigned to your shift. Create and maintain a working climate conducive to producing quality care. Respect individual for ability, knowledge and skills. Plan opportunities for growth and development. Guide working relationships within unit with residents, families, visitors, Nursing personnel, Medical staff, hospital department and representatives of community agencies. Interpret for individual the new, current and standing policies posted on bulletin boards on units. Review critical incidents and discuss with the Director of Nursing and other Supervisors and interpret to staff. Write periodic evaluations and discuss with personnel both strengths and weaknesses Report to Director of Nursing any personnel problems. Complete incident reports, review reports and co-sign for all staff members. Keep abreast of new developments on management. Assist with open positions on their shift to ensure care needs are met, including LPN and CNA duties as needed. Suggest changes to Director of Nursing. Attend all required in-services and follow the department and facility policies and procedures including the use of protective equipment. Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent resident care and employee information and follow the HIPAA and HIV regulations What we need from you Education/Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and currently licensed by the State of New York. All RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement. Coordinates the scheduling of work, paid time away, etc. for assigned employees to assure that patient care and office duties are completed to maintain an orderly and efficiently run office routine. Reviews ATS for verification of hours worked. Works collaboratively with physicians to implement improvements within the practice to ensure a high caliber of patient care and services. Runs and analyzes report data as needed for compliance with quality initiatives and for operational decision support. Contributes to developing and attaining long range objectives for Primary Care including but not limited to financial goals, operations improvement, quality improvement, resource utilization and clinical practice enhancements. Recruits, hires, trains and develops clinical staff in conjunction with Human Resources and the Practice Manager. Provides and creates an awareness of professional activities available for staff development. Participates in the preparation of detailed operating budget projections for staff, supplies and equipment. Participates in the analysis of financial data to determine problem areas, potential savings and ways to reduce operating costs and maximizing charge capture.
