Job Summary The Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions primarily in the operating room (OR), consults, clinic, and acute care settings. Additional responsibilities include ordering, scheduling, and performing laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy testing, blood tests, x-rays), as well as communicating the purpose, preparation, and anticipated outcomes of procedures to patients. In collaboration with physicians, the APP coordinates consultations and referrals with other medical professionals and community resources. The APP also plays a key role in patient education, providing guidance on health maintenance, self-examinations, behavior modification, follow-up care, home management, medications, and other aspects of ongoing health and recovery. Physician Assistant: Provide medical services that are within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and documents in medical records Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data as evidenced by types of tests ordered Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
