Under the general supervision of the Manager of Perioperative Services, and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for filling the surgical scrub role on all types of minor and major surgical procedures dependent on individual competencies in each surgical specialty. Assists physicians and nurses in various medical and technical procedures. These functions must be in compliance with the philosophy of the hospital, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies. Checks table(s) for complete readiness for each procedure. Ensures all items needed for the case are present: Obtains physician’s special instruments and sutures prior to start of the case. Surgical Technologists assist with surgical procedures, provision of therapeutic, preventive, and emergency patient care duties. Prepares, operates, and maintaines routine and complex equipment, instruments, supplies and implants. All duties are done under the direction of a registered professional nurse.
