Overview Description : Provides specialty medical services to patients within the scope of the supervising physician's medical specialty, and under the direction of the department director or division administrator. Clinical Area: The APP II position provides moderate to complex specialty care primarily in an outpatient setting. Reviews, prescribes and/or recommends medications and treatments to patients Assess patient health status including state of wellness, compliance with care plan and determines appropriate diagnostic and any therapeutic procedure required by their specialty. Provides follow up for established patients where continuity of care is required along with timely and appropriate referrals to physician and pharmacist for patients in need of further medical care and services. Enters pertinent clinical information in the patient's medical record in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with established compliance billing guidelines. Documents and closes open encounters, MyChart messages, and other EMR communications in accordance with Institutional requirements. Participates in meetings, functions, events, and committees, as well as in a team of interdisciplinary health care providers. Contributes to the development, implementation, and expansion of programs and initiatives, including participation in research activities, as applicable. Instruct, educate and counsel patients/families regarding their healthcare to include illness or injury, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and treatment regimens as well as routine health maintenance. Description Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our outpatient Neurosurgical Oncology Brain Tumor Clinic. Northwestern Neurosurgery is an academic neurosurgery practice with 16 surgeons and 19 Advanced Practice Providers across multiple sub-specialties. This role will focus primarily on the brain tumor patient population in the Malnati Brain Tumor Institute but will also participate in a spine clinic with the surgeon once a month. The Advanced Practice Provider will work in the ambulatory setting alongside one RN to support one neurosurgeon while also maintaining an independent practice. While managing an independent clinic, other job duties include preparing surgeons' clinic, triage of all clinical messages from patients and overseeing care coordination in addition to attending tumor board and other academic activities. There will not be any opportunity for first assist in the OR. Schedule: M-F, days; no nights/weekends/holidays/on-call The position is scheduled for five 8-hour shifts per week.
