How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. They work within established policy and procedure, as well as state guidelines, to deliver high-quality care to patients seeking MAT for substance abuse disorders. The NP also ensures accurate documentation of services and communicates effectively with the Medical Director and site director to maintain coverage of medical services. Key Responsibilities Conducts on-site chronic care clinics and sick call as established by Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator, or designee. Provides emergency treatment on-site and responds appropriately in urgent or emergency situations. Prescribes a planned regimen of total patient care, which is adequate, problem-oriented, and appropriate to the needs of the patient. Supports standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures. Reports any doubts or questions regarding the lack of appropriate referrals, nursing or medical intervention necessary for the realization of established patient goals to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator for disposition. Qualifications & Requirements Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or an accredited education program for Physician Assistant Advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Experience 2 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant within the state of employment. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator, Program Manager, or higher medical professional. They assist the Physician in all medical care and treatment of the inmate population, including behavioral health disorders. The role includes coordinating the patient plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in compliance with all agency, local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Key Responsibilities • Respond to and deliver care according to protocols and procedures.• Evaluate and treat patients for acute care and emergency medicine complaints based on standardized procedures and protocols.• Consult with a physician for conditions outside protocol parameters and identify patients who require transfer to an Emergency Department.• Assess patients' medical, traumatic, and psychiatric issues and document all findings using the S.O.A.P method and EMR.• Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, attend administrative meetings, and provide clinical support for other services as needed.
