How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities • Respond to and deliver care according to protocols and procedures.• Evaluate and treat patients for acute care and emergency medicine complaints based on standardized procedures and protocols.• Consult with a physician for conditions outside protocol parameters and identify patients who require transfer to an Emergency Department.• Assess patients' medical, traumatic, and psychiatric issues and document all findings using the S.O.A.P method and EMR.• Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, attend administrative meetings, and provide clinical support for other services as needed. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. Assists in medical or minor surgical procedures, implements nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and documents nursing encounters using SOAP charting, ensuring effective communication with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel. Attends mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high-quality patient care. How you make a difference As a Physician's Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, and assist the Physician in providing medical care and treatment to the inmate population, which includes addressing behavioral health disorders. You will coordinate patient care plans by conducting assessments, developing plans, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes, all while working collaboratively with the healthcare team and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at the agency, local, state, and federal levels. Key Responsibilities • Conduct daily sick call, carry out treatments, and follow standardized procedures and protocols.• Provide emergency care for identified medical emergencies and coordinate patient transfers to appropriate facilities.• Perform minor surgical procedures, repair lacerations, and remove sutures.• Treat and manage non-psychotic behavioral health disorders and provide ongoing care for patients on maintenance doses of non-psychotic medications.• Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, document findings using the S.O.A.P.E. method, and attend quarterly Quality Management meetings. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of medical services for inmates. They work under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians and in accordance with established policy and procedure as well as within the state guidelines. They provide required documentation of services to the Site Medical Director or designee in order to monitor provision of clinical services. They notify the Medical Director and H.S.A. regarding changes in schedule coverage. Assist in arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Reports to the assigned facility at designated times to examine patients, conduct chronic care clinics and sick calls, and perform infirmary rounds, ensuring all interactions and progress notes are documented in SOAP format and adhere to established standards. Responds to health emergencies and provides on-site emergency treatment, adhering to standard guidelines, and provides call coverage for the facility based on client and patient needs. Utilizes available in-house resources for treatment before considering off-site referrals and adheres to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens, ensuring non-formulary procedures are justified and approved by the Medical Director. Supports standards of medical care by following policies and procedures for infirmary admissions, emergency room transfers, and the utilization review process for specialty referrals while maintaining responsibility for individual judgments and actions. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals and participates in facility committees, such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Medical Audit Committee, as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
