If you are an APRN, LVN, or RN in Texas, follow the steps below. If you’re not in state, there’s a different process to obtain a nursing license by endorsement.
Step 1: Determine Your Renewal Deadline
LVNs, RNs, and APRNs
To begin the Texas Board of Nursing license renewal process, you need to know when your credential expires. Texas nursing licenses are valid for two years and expire on the last day of your birth month. Nurses born in odd-numbered years renew in odd-numbered years, while those born in even-numbered years renew in even-numbered years.

CNAs
CNAs must renew their certification every two years. In Texas, CNA renewal is managed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) through the Texas Nurse Aide Registry.
Step 2: Satisfy Texas Board of Nursing License Renewal CE Requirements
LVNs and RNs
As a nursing professional in Texas, you must satisfy continuing education requirements within each licensing period to be legally allowed to practice. After an initial renewal, nurses must have either:
