Step 1: Determine Your Renewal Deadline
The first step in renewing your Nevada nursing license is knowing exactly when your current license expires and when you’re eligible to submit your renewal application. The deadlines are as follows:
- RN/LPN: Every 2 years on the licensee’s birthday
- APRN: Every 2 years on the licensee’s birthday
- CNA: Every 2 years on the certificant’s birthday

Step 2: Complete Your Continuing Education Requirements
Implementing continuing education requirements helps ensure healthcare workers are up to date on their current knowledge and changes in the industry. These requirements vary depending on your license type:
- RN/LPN: You must complete 30 hours of continuing education, including the ones covering cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.There’s also a 4-hour bioterrorism course requirement that must be completed at least once in your nursing career.

You also must have practiced at least 1,000 hours as an APRN within the previous 5 years.
- CNA: You must complete 24 hours of continuing education and accumulate 40 practice hours over the past 2 years. If you have not worked as a CNA during the renewal cycle, you will need to either retake a state-approved CNA training program or successfully complete the CNA skills and written exams.
New graduates do not have to complete continuing education aside from the one-time bioterrorism requirement, from which CNAs are exempt.
