This Team is interprofessional representing expert surgical technologists, nurses, surgeons, anesthesiology, and support personal with many of our surgeons and anesthesia team practicing at both Salem and MGH. As a member of the team, the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for working under the supervision of the surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective invasive and noninvasive surgical procedures. Additionally, the CST ensures the operating room environment is safe, that the correct surgical supplies and equipment is present and in excellent working condition. Assists during surgery in a number of ways such as to don gowns and gloves, adjust surgical equipment, hand surgeon instruments, hold retractors and count sponges, needles, and instruments used during the operation. Keep surgeons preference card information current. Able to clean, decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies. Cross trained to function adequately in Central Sterile and receiving and decontamination. Qualifications Work requires proficiency in the application of sterile procedures in an operating room setting. Requires graduation from a surgical technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation. Work requires immediate response to emergency procedures which requires individual to respond within thirty minutes to the Hospital, as well as have a phone. The Parkland College Surgical Technology Education Stipend provides selected students a $16,000 education stipend to be used to assist with program costs. Upon graduation, education stipend recipients will be required to work a 3 year work commitment, full time at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center (Bloomington, IL), or OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center (Urbana), or OSF Saint Francis Medical Center (Peoria), whichever you select, as a Surgical Technologist. POSITION SUMMARY: The Surgical Technologist provides care for patients across the life span based on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety, appropriate to the age of the person. Primarily performs duties of scrub person throughout the intra-operative phase of care.
