This is an exciting opportunity to support surgical services in a fast-paced environment, delivering high-quality patient care in collaboration with a compassionate, multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities Follows established procedures for surgical intervention--utilizes appropriate preference sheets, checks case cart for accuracy of on-hand supplies, obtains appropriate items for procedures. Follows established guidelines related to aseptic technique--utilizes proper scrub, gown and gloving technique for self, surgeon, and assistant; ongoing monitoring of asepsis throughout surgical procedures and reports breaks immediately. Demonstrates expertise in performance of scrub/surgical routines--anticipates needs of surgeon; consistently recognizes sequence of procedures; understands rationale of instrument usage; passes instruments correctly; appropriate review and preparation for assigned procedures. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of instrument usage, assembly of instrument sets, case set-up procedures, break-down of instruments set-ups, and protocol for transport to SPD for processing. Understands and utilizes established guidelines for operation of autoclaves and steris units--performs daily A-Test/Biological tests as required; performs proper care, handling, and assembly of instruments for processing; ensures complete/thorough documentation of all flash and steris cycles as per protocol. Accepts personal accountability for proper handling, judicious use, and optimum care of all department supply, instrument, and equipment inventory. Assists the RN with planning patient care--routine and special needs, patient positioning, surgical skin prep, documentation, and accuracy of patient charge process. Confines and contains sources of contamination throughout the surgical procedure--maintains neat and orderly sterile field, ensures ongoing gross cleaning of instrumentation, etc. Assists with ongoing maintenance of up-to-date preference sheets in coordination with circulating RN, Resource RNs, and department PCCs. Strives to ensure efficiency in turn around time between procedures--readily available; communication with circulating RN, OR Desk/Charge RN and/or department PCC; assists with room clean up tasks as necessary; prioritizes case set up process toward maximum efficiency. Qualifications Must possess one (1) year experience in hospital setting. Prefer minimum of 1 year current operating room experience. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Responsibilities Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies. Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery. Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients. Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitors/tracks instruments counts throughout procedures. Requirements Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. One or more of the following required: Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Education: High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. WORK SHIFT 8 hr day shifts (generally 0700-1530) Mon-Fri. ​Includes weekend, weekday and holiday call expectation JOB SUMMARY The Surgical Technologist-CVOR-Acute is a skilled member of the allied healthcare team who provides clinical support and/or operating room assistance under the supervision of a licensed Cardiovascular Surgeon. The Surgical Technologist-CVOR works with a wide variety of healthcare professionals to deliver direct patient care before, during, and after cardiovascular procedures or surgery. The Surgical Technologist-CVOR will function in the scrub role and will monitor and maintain aseptic technique, equipment, supplies and instruments. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient and staff by working in accordance with Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) standards of practice and by adhering to MCHS policies/procedures, universal precautions, and sterile technique. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Graduate of a surgical technologist program or military equivalent. Preferred/Optional: Surgical technologist advanced degree. EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: Two years of recent experience as a surgical technologist. Two years of clinical experience in an operating room, surgical environment or other related healthcare experience will be considered in lieu of the surgical technologist experience. Preferred/Optional: Two years’ CVOR experience- Competent in functioning independently in the scrub role in multiple complex cardiovascular procedures and in life saving situations. Successfully completed certification exam. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: BLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHS) required within three months of hire. Must meet criteria for hospital and ambulatory surgery staff privileges (where applicable). May require additional specialty or department-specific certifications (where applicable). Preferred/Optional: BLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHS) at time of hire. Surgical Technologist certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Those without the certification are encouraged to complete continuing education credits equal to the requirements to maintain certification.
