Assistant Director of Nursing, RN Majestic Care of Carmel is looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing, RN to join our team's mission and believe in our core values! Position Overview: The ADNS assists in managing the department of nursing and assumes responsibility delegated by the Director of Nursing Services (DNS). Key Responsibilities: Assist in interviewing applicants and recommend hiring of staff and scheduling. Participate in orientation and in-service education training. Participate in performance reviews and personnel files; enforce the personnel policies of the community, including disciplining and terminating care team members. Assist DNS in ensuring compliance with regulations for documentation from physicians and nursing personnel and ensuring that all regional policies/procedures are implemented. Assist with care planning process. Make rounds daily to direct the work of care team members and to observe for hazards, work duty problems, and ensure services are delivered to clients consistent with needs. Assist with Continuous Quality Improvement and corrective follow-up actions. Follow up daily on each unit to ensure changes in status are reported and recorded and that services are provided. Under the direction of the DNS, complete chart audits and report results and progress, and makes recommendations for improvement to the DNS. Ensure proper infection control techniques are utilized. Maintain effective communication with families, residents and community staff. Qualifications: Current RN license by State Board of Nursing in state employed; license must be active, valid, and in good standing. Experience in the long-term care or working with the geriatric population preferred. Must have at least three years nursing experience and one year supervisory experience. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs. Reassesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and recognizes and responds to emergencies. Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome. Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning. Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness. Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues. Participates in orientation of new staff. Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff. Participates in the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance. Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously. Performs other related duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Critical Care Unit: ACLS or ALS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must successfully complete dysrhythmia recognition test at initial department orientation. Emergency Department: Must complete ACLS or ALS certification during orientation. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS must be completed within one year of hire. Maternity Center: ACLS or ALS Certification required. NPR certification is required within 3 months of hire. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required. Minimum of BSN required. BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers Certification required. PALS Certification required for staff who are assigned to care for pediatric patients. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in transportation of patients to and from the surgical services departments. Performs as a first assistant when assigned within scope of practice, competency, and skills. Reviews preference cards and makes proper selection of appropriate supplies and equipment for surgical procedures assigned. Accountable for supplies, equipment, and environmental support in a cost-effective manner. Drapes all equipment in a sterile fashion. Identifies specimens for processing by circulating nurse. Counts instruments, sharps, and sponges, before, during and after surgery. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Removes soiled instruments and equipment appropriately. Recognizes, intervenes, and reports situations which impede patient safety. Safeguards the privacy of patients and maintains confidentially. Maintains stock in Operating Room supply carts as needed. Recognizes and reports problems related to kits, equipment, or supplies. Contributes to cleanliness and order of the unit. Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in assigned room. Ensures patient comfort and safety measures are maintained. Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures with a high degree of efficiency, anticipating physician and patient needs during the case. Assists in daily maintenance of the department, in completing work assignments, restocking, pulling cases for the next day and maintaining equipment in good working order. Utilizes non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner. Orients and trains others on appropriate instruments/equipment use. Follows all appropriate procedures to decontaminate, sterilize, and disinfect equipment and instruments. Correctly assembles and wraps/packages items. Prepares items in an organized and timely manner. Operates the autoclave unit appropriately and performs high level disinfection processes. Performs other duties as required. Develop a care plan, which establishes goals based on nursing diagnosis and incorporates therapeutic, preventive and rehabilitative nursing actions. 6. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician. 7. Provides health care instructions to the patient as appropriate per assessment and plan of care. 8. Identifies discharge planning needs as part of the care plan. Prepares patient and family for discharge. 9. RN acts as Case Manager when assigned by Director of Nursing and assumes responsibility to coordinate patient care for assigned caseload. 10. Coordinate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, MSWs and other individuals in the patient care plan. Communication: 1. Prepares clinical notes and updates the primary physician when necessary. 2. Communicate with the physician and office regarding the patient's needs and report any changes in the patient's condition; obtain/receives physician's orders as required. 3. Communicate with community health-related persons to coordinate the care plan. 4. Registered Nurse (RN) reports with home office on any updates, concerns and issues regarding the paient. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Home healthcare experience required. 2. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 3. Current licensure in state of Indiana and current CPR certification. 4. Management experience not required. 5. Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, basic math skills, nursing skills per competency checklist. 6. Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position, or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching. SUMMARY: The RN Unit Manager performs professional supervisory nursing practice in the care of the physically and mentally ill. Work involves responsibility for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at the facility.
