The Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. This role will vary considerably with the surgical operation and specialty. Clinical skills performed under direct supervision of the surgeon may include the following: positioning the patient, preparing the skin, providing visualization of the operative site, utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis, utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes, assisting with selecting and applying appropriate wound dressings and providing assistance in securing drainage system to tissue. Shift Days w/ Call Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 POSITION PURPOSE : This position-scrub tech- is a medical professional that assists surgeons and other surgical staff under the supervision of a surgeon or registered nurse in the operating room. They may help set up the operating room, prepare patients for surgery or adjust equipment as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Scrub techs have a variety of duties that they perform in the operating room: Will secure all equipment and instrumentation for assigned operative cases. Will assure sterile field is maintained and take appropriate action if it is not. Will assist with pre-surgery and post-surgery counts to assure accuracy. Assist in patient positioning, lighting adjustment, and can operate any needed equipment during surgical case.
