Medication Assistance: Count Control Substance with outgoing PCA (sign your initials if count is correct). Any missing Controlled substances should be reported to Administration. Prepare medication, bring medication to dining room during meal time, and assist residents with medication. If a resident requires medication prior to breakfast, the charge PCA shall go to the resident's room and assist the resident with medication. If a resident requires afternoon or after dinner medication, the PCA shall assist the resident with medication from the med room. The procedure of assistance for injectable medication is as follows: A resident requiring assistance shall come to the med room. The PCA shall assist the resident by handing over the injectable medication to the resident. The resident shall self-administer medication in the presence of the PCA. The resident shall safely dispose of the remains of the injectable medication into the sharps container. The PCA shall never come into contact or dispose of injectable medication after it has been handed to the resident. PCA must always watch residents ingest medication and properly document. PCA shall update medication administration record as needed, after Physician visits & ensure MAR & Dr. orders match PCA shall ensure that resident receives all necessary documents prior to doctor appointments.
