Ensure staff responsible for medication administration is appropriately trained, including proper reporting procedures for problems with self-administration and proper responses to medical emergencies. Assist with the development, implementation and updating of policies and procedures relating to client health care. Assist youth, staff and parents in the understanding and management of mental health issues. Provide educational groups as programming requires. Document client attendance, interaction, and relevance to individual plan. Keep current on developments in medications and health care related to mental illness and train staff. Maintain resource files on medication information and health related topics for staff and youth’s use. Perform health screening and assessment for all new admissions. Perform ongoing assessment for medication side effects and drug interactions. Review youth’s knowledge of and compliance with medications and provide individual health education and medication monitoring to assist in skill building for managing their illness. Advocate on behalf of youth in relation to the medical system. Process medication changes; make follow-up calls, as needed. Make recommendations regarding youth health status as to the need for additional assessment, evaluation, primary care visits, unscheduled psychiatric visits, etc. Provide direction in the event of a medical emergency. Support all residential programs by responding to medical issues that need an RN’s attention. Other: Familiar with all co-worker’s job functions so that appropriate internal referrals can be initiated as needed (i.e. nurse, clinician, and principal). Job Summary St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is seeking a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in our Intensive Care Unit to join our team. Highlights: You will join a team of 7 attending Physicians, 7 Nurse Practitioners. The unit is covered 24/7 by 2 Mid level providers. The Hours of coverage vary 7a-4p, 4p-8a, and 7a-8a. Your shifts will vary throughout the month. Weekend and holiday coverage is expected. There are (3) 25 hr shifts of weekend time per month. Usually, one Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is call associated with this position - It will vary, minimum of 6 calls per month. Shifts will vary according to need. The PNP is responsible for a practice that demonstrates a high level of autonomy, clinical decision making and advanced skill in management and treatment of complex illnesses in the critical care environment. The PNP provides leadership and clinical support for the interdisciplinary team in the PICU/CCU/SCU, engages in research and quality management activities and, participates in multidisciplinary educational activities. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague demonstrates within the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork (Definitions listed below). The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on expanding the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age appropriate considerations of assigned patients. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague seeks feedback in assuming leadership roles and provides feedback for improved clinical practice. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies. Responsibilities: Professional Practice Competency Domains Definitions Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): The nurse utilizes data and QI methods to identify potential and actual problems and opportunities to provide care that is safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable. Evidence Based Practice and Research: The nurse evaluates and integrates best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient and family preferences and values for the delivery of optimal health care and system effectiveness. Leadership: The nurse effectively collaborates and applies innovative, systems thinking to engage in systematic, evidence-based problem solving and decision making to promote effective changes within a complex care delivery system supporting the vision of Penn Medicine. Person and Family Centered Care: The nurse recognizes the patient (or the patient’s designee) as the source of control and a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient’s preferences, values, and needs. Professionalism: The nurse demonstrates a commitment to the nursing profession through lifelong learning, adherence to ANA’s Code of Ethics for Nurses, participation in a professional organization and advancing community outreach. Safety: The nurse minimizes risk of harm to patients, families, providers and self through system effectiveness and individual performance. Technology/Informatics: The nurse utilizes appropriate information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making across the continuum. Teamwork: The nurse effectively engages in the process of cooperation, coordination, and collaboration in an effort to provide for safe, quality outcomes for patients within inter and intra-professional teams, including virtual teams. Credentials: Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association. Registered Nurse - PA (Required) Pennsylvania RN licensure Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor of Science Nursing (Required) BSN from an accredited school of nursing and More than 15 months relevant professional nursing experience and completion of the Nurse Residency Program, if applicable.
