Description The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting for two (2) full-time (1.0 FTE) Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine. Patient care efforts will occur at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), Montlake campus. The selected candidates will provide inpatient care as part of the intensive care unit (ICU) services team at UWMC under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Medical, Surgical, and Oncology Bone Marrow Transplant ICUs. The APP is a member of the inter-professional pulmonary and critical care team that includes attending physicians, pulmonary and critical care trainees, multidisciplinary specialists (social workers, dieticians, pharmacists, psychiatrists), other physician assistants and nurse practitioners providing inpatient critical care at UWMC Montlake. The successful applicant will provide care independently and collaboratively with other team members. Duties will include rounding daily with the critical care team, writing daily notes, coordinating the care of patients with the service attending physician and fellow, and participating in teaching opportunities in the clinical setting. Faculty members are encouraged to provide input at regularly held section meetings to address clinical issues and to help ensure the efficient deployment of team resources. As a member of the inpatient care team, the APP will need to provide coverage on weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care. Teaching associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The anticipated start date of this position is November 2025 or later. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching and service. The base salary range for this position will be: $9,167–$15,174 per month ($110,004–182,095 per year) on a full-time basis and would be adjusted for actual FTE commitment, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program, or foreign equivalent. Current and valid licensure as an ARNP or PA in Washington State. Nationally certified ARNP/PA-C with DEA. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and clinical expertise in critical care. A minimum of 3–5 years of critical care experience. A Fred Hutch Cancer Center ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management of multiple service lines of adult oncology patients at our community site at Northwest Hospital. They will actively coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing both systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiation therapy. The incumbent will manage side-effects of these therapies, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies; prescribe medications and refer patient to other specialists as necessary. The incumbent may provide for post-treatment cancer patients follow-up visits for the medically indicated period after completion of treatment. The incumbent will also provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching and refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning. This position requires the ability to lead other clinical staff, be accountable for the work required in this position, the ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment, and the relentless pursuit of excellent patient centered care. This clinic provides a broad range of services including GI, Lung, GU, Breast, and Hematologic Malignancies and Radiation therapy. Responsibilities Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues. Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research Provides patient, caregiver, and peer education Communicates effectively with the teams Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required. Washington state licensure required. DEA required at time of credentialing ACLS required within 3 months of start date. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. EMR experience required. Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential. Preferred: 1 year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Medical Oncology preferred The annual base salary range for this position is from $126,984.00 to $200,678.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
