Position Summary

Provides individualized diabetes self-management education/ training to individuals and groups according to the Scope of Practice, Standards of Practice, and Standards of Professional performance for Diabetes Educators (AADE, 2005).

The Diabetes educator RN provides diabetes self-management education/ training to individuals and groups according to the ADA SOC for Diabetes and Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists standards. The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in the out-patient diabetes education program.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments and develop personalized educational plans for individuals with diabetes
  • Provide comprehensive diabetes education to patients and their families, covering topics such as blood glucose monitoring, medication management, insulin administration, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications
  • Teach patients how to use diabetes care technologies, including glucose meters, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitoring systems
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement treatment plans, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Offer ongoing support and counseling utilizing motivational interviewing to help patients cope with their condition and improve outcomes
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and progress notes in accordance with healthcare standards and regulations

Requirements

  • Licensed in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical practice with preferred experience working with PWD
  • Certification as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist preferred
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $54.17 - $88.37 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
