Staff Nurse - Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)- 60% Weekend Option

Changing Lives. ® Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) (5 RCP) This 26-bed unit provides comprehensive high-tech intensive care to acutely ill adults with a wide variety of complex critically ill patients with multiple medical issues who demonstrate a deterioration of health requiring critical care nursing. Patient diagnoses include multi-system failure respiratory failure, severe sepsis, overdoses (OD), GIB, medical neuro, various cancers, and bone marrow transplants. State of the art technology is implemented in MICU including il-2 therapy, VV ECMO, CRRT, ventilators, vasoactive drugs and preforms many bedside procedures. MICU provides total patient care involving a multidisciplinary approach, in conjunction with state-of-the-art technology, for systematic assessment and improvement of care to the critically ill patients. In 2012 we were awarded a National award for outstanding achievement and leadership for elimination of Ventilator Associated pneumonia. The Integrated Call Center is seeking a Staff Nurse at 80% time. The Staff Nurse provides support via telephone and electronic communication forums to UI Healthcare patients, referring entities and business partners. Admission and Transfer Center - Staff Nurse 90-100% Nights

Changing Lives. ® The ATC operates the high-volume patient admit and transfer center, facilitating patient access to UI Health Care inpatient services through telephone and electronic based communication. Serving as a contact center for internal providers as well as external referring providers while serving over 20 departments across University of Iowa Health Care. Our Transfer Center team focus is triage of referring facility transfer requests and facilitates inpatient access through all inter-facility avenues including admissions across facilities, from the emergency department and from ambulatory areas. Our Bed Management team focus is the assignment of right patient/right bed, at the right time. This teams works with the inpatient nursing teams to facilitate patient throughput to prioritize the most appropriate patients into the beds efficiently. This position is eligible for a combination of remote work and in-person (hybrid) work within Iowa. Training will be conducted onsite at the Hospital Support Services Building (HSSB). There can be up to a minimum of 6 months or other duration of time determined by the supervisor of on-site training prior to Hybrid eligibility. Hybrid work eligibility will be evaluated following successful completion of job training, and a work arrangement form will be required to be completed prior to the start of remote work. Position Responsibilities Performs aspects of the patient admission flow management process, ensuring that transfers, patient placement, and related activities occur in a timely, safe, and accurate fashion. Includes, clinical assessments for triage and bed placement for patients. Coordinates incoming patient transfer requests with referring/receiving facilities and physicians. Coordinates necessary transportation resources for incoming patient transfer requests. Stays informed of patient changes and communicates impact to admitting teams. Reviews medical reports from referring hospitals or physician offices and relays information to the receiving providers and nursing unit as needed. Evaluates all bed requests using approved criteria ensuring patients are expediently transferred or assigned rooms and resources are utilized efficiently. Responds appropriately to requests made by transferring physicians, hospitals, and peers to improve patient flow. Works with supervisors to implement effective solutions and strategies to enhance patient care and satisfaction. Prioritize customer service, professional communication, and customer satisfaction. Demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations. Displays influential leadership to optimize clinical and operational outcomes. Delivers exceptional customer service while facilitating communication across multiple disciplines. Possess’ and maintains working knowledge of external and inter-facility protocols and standards of practice. Functions as a patient advocate.
