The Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room for the surgical procedure including the instruments, equipment, and supplies. They must maintain the sterile field during the surgical procedure. Will scrub more general cases which may include general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics. May also be 2nd, 3rd or 4th scrub in all surgical specialties. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and cultural beliefs of MercyOne. Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. General Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program. CST certification is required if working in Illinois. LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program. No prior experience is required. BLS. Mandatory Reporter. Employment Type: Full time Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift Description: Position Purpose: The surgical technologist, using the principles of medical asepsis, prepares the operating room for surgical cases of all specialties and instruments the surgical procedures anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist provides care within the MercyOne North Iowa Standards of Care, AORN Standards of Care and Practice and the Operating Room Policies and Procedures. What you Will Do: Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care. Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice. Assists in setting up rooms. Secures safe transport of the patient if needed. Confirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse. Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources. Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager. Identifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards. Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department. Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties. Hours: Day Shift - 8, 10 and 12 hour shifts available. Heart call 10-11 days per month, one weekend a month and 2 holidays per year. If not on call for the weekend, 1-2 weekdays. Call response time is 30 min. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required, or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience. Certification as a surgical technologist preferred. CSS Support Tech III (CST III) - Turn Center (1st shift)

Central Sterilizing Services is seeking a full-time Support Technician III (Central Service Technician III) on 1st shift. This position will be scheduled Monday-Friday. 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This position will be located within the Turn Center at the Medical Center University campus in Iowa City. The CSS Support Technician at the TC Processing location oversees all support duties within this smaller satellite facility. This role includes managing bi-weekly disposable supply orders and ensuring all necessary items are stocked and available. The technician is also responsible for coordinating TC Holding for Completion trays, working closely with ISC staff to ensure that trays are completed promptly. In addition, this position requires collaboration with the Support Team to identify and replace missing instruments in trays at the TC location. The technician also serves as a key point of contact for CSS Operations and Nurse Liaisons, helping to troubleshoot and resolve instrument and supply-related issues. They are also responsible for creating instrument equivalencies, building new instruments and products into the tracking system, and completing tray optimization requests to improve efficiency and accuracy in instrument management. To further support department operations, the technician is actively involved in updating TC backup locations, removing unnecessary instruments, and creating space for Clinic instruments that do not currently have assigned locations. Additionally, they act as a resource on the assembly floor, providing support and guidance to staff to ensure proper tray assembly and adherence to quality standards. This role is essential in maintaining workflow efficiency, ensuring accurate instrument tracking, and supporting the overall operations of the TC Processing location.
