Assistant Nurse Manager - Intermediate Care Unit

Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY: To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by planning, directing and assessing all unit functions to include evaluation of patient care on a 24 hour basis on an assigned unit. Additional functions include participation in the development of policies and procedures for the Department of Patient Care Services, implementation of Health First policies and objectives, interview and selection of personnel, budget preparation, and cost effective operations, scheduling and assignment of personnel, employee performance appraisals, quality improvement activities, counseling and disciplinary actions as needed, at all times serving as clinical and professional role model to staff and contributing to their professional growth and development. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Quality/No Harm: Ensures patient and staff safety on the assigned unit. Promotes associate accountability and competency through leadership and management practice. Provides input for annual performance appraisals and competency checklists for personnel on assigned shift on an annual basis and as necessary in a timely manner. Interviews and participates in the selection of new personnel for the unit. Assists with and participates in the development of policies, procedures, and standards of care for the unit. Implements and ensures compliance with policies and procedures. Ensures adequate training and appropriate use of the electronic medical record in compliance with established policies, procedures, and expectations. Counsels and disciplines associates as necessary. Encourages associate growth and development through mentorship and goal setting. Encourages associate participation in the clinical ladder. Responsible for scheduling and assigning personnel on assigned shift to ensure safe, adequate, and appropriate staffing for the unit. Schedules are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the approved unit staffing plan based on patient needs and acuity. Assists with implementation of unit based performance improvement activities resulting in improved operations and patient care outcomes: Completes assigned audits and monitors accurately and in a timely manner. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement activities on the unit o Reports CQI results to departmental director and shares with shift associates. Ensures compliance with the Joint Commission and other organizational and regulatory agency standards with quality indicators and core measures. Performs those clinical skills within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in the state of Florida for which competencies have been validated. Stewardship: Assists in the development of the annual budget for the unit to include personnel, operational and capital needs. Monitors and ensures compliance staffing guidelines. Communicates unit, staff, and equipment needs and concerns to Manager/Director as appropriate. Customer Experience: Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-CARE commitments and Health First Philosophy. Consistently displays and holds associates accountable for the elements of good service. Facilitates communication and problem solving with team members, physicians, and administrative personnel. Demonstrates ability to provide patient care utilizing nursing process as evidenced by documentation of process and discharge planning. Ensures current knowledge and competency in appropriate clinical skills. Documents attendance at clinical and management continuing education programs to ensure that knowledge base is current and to promote professional growth and development. Acquires certification in clinical specialty. Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHP scores for department. Ensures consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report. Work Experience QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN required, OR Conditional and time limited waiver for BSN requirement may apply to internal associates who complete their BSN within 3 years of transition to new role (grand-father provision), OR external candidates may apply who are currently enrolled in a BSN program to complete within 3 years of hire. Licensure: Current Florida RN license or endorsement. Certification: Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain. National certification in relevant specialty or in Nurse Administration preferred. Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years acute care clinical experience preferred. Must be able to pass color blind testing to perform POC tests requiring color changes. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for 90% of assigned shift. MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to display and promote elements of good service. Must have ability to listen well and analyze needs from various ages and levels of education. Must have ability to access, interpret data and educate members of the healthcare team, patients, and significant others of various ages. Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY Provides and ensures patients receive whole care in all aspects of an office visit, regarding intake, test results, screenings, labs, medication administration, closure of care gaps (additional duties as assigned) while delivering excellent customer service to the patients/families and other care providers, focusing on patient-centered care. Controlled substances, insulin and allergy doses must be checked by LPN, RN or provider. Assist in stocking and ordering of supplies as well as maintenance of equipment. Coordinates medical supply ordering with site manager. Prepare patients for examination and have pre-work available for provider as directed, to include notes, diagnostic test results and imaging. Prepare and perform point of care testing and/or specimen collection as directed by provider. Track and communicate to patients, labs, and diagnostic studies results, as directed by the provider through phone calls, portal messages or EMR buckets. Communicates to physician abnormal findings retrieved from the lab, imaging, specialty offices, etc. and completes accurate documentation. Follow safety processes and policies including applying proper infection prevention procedures, maintaining a clean environment and equipment, to ensure proper care is given. Complete and document adverse events, infection control and quality control measures as required. Complies with office policy and procedure, OSHA Standards and HIPAA Privacy Regulations as Deliver excellent customer service to the patients/families and other care providers. Maintains patient flow after check in. Discuss patient flow with physician according to urgency and daily patient load. Ability to assist more than one provider at a time. Our Radiation Oncology Department Consists Of Radiation oncologists, who are responsible for designing a patient’s radiation therapy plan and coordinating the details with other department members Radiation therapists, who are trained to operate the advanced treatment machines used to generate radioactive beams Dosimetrists, who are responsible for programming the equipment that delivers precise doses of radiation to the targeted areas while minimizing exposure for healthy tissues; they are also responsible for running computer simulations before a patient’s plan is implemented Physicists, who help commission new equipment, run quality control tests and otherwise ensure that patients receive their prescribed doses and dose distributions Nursing specialists, nutritionists, counselors and other support staff, who make sure all of a patient’s needs are fully met throughout the course of treatment Moffitt’s Radiation Oncology Program is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). To obtain this accreditation, we completed a rigorous review process that ensured proper training and certification for our staff members, making them exceptionally qualified to perform and administer radiation treatments. Additionally, our radiation therapy equipment was found to meet or exceed the quality assurance and safety guidelines established by the ACR. Position Highlights The Registered Nurse for the Radiation Oncology Clinic provides care at the following locations: McKinley Outpatient Service Center, near Busch Gardens Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida campus The Registered Nurse delivers individualized quality nursing care to cancer patients and families in accordance with established hospital guidelines, nursing professional practice model, nursing care standards and policies and in accordance with ANA code of ethics and external regulatory agencies.
