Assist with post-operative tasks, such as wound closure, dressing application, and transferring patients to recovery areas, following established protocols and guidelines. Participate in quality assurance activities, including maintaining accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient care documentation. Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times, promoting a culture of safety and accountability in the operating room. Qualifications Must possess one (1) year experience in hospital setting.Prefer minimum of 1 year current operating room experience. Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique. Ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and adapt to changing priorities during surgical procedures. A Brief Overview The Obstetrics Tech assists the professional Nurse in performing direct and indirect patient care activities. Perform surgical procedures in the role of a Scrub Technician. What you will do The Obstetrics Technician functions in the scrub role during obstetric/fetal surgical procedures. Collaborates with RN and physicians in developing a plan of care for each patient. Collaborates with RN in maintaining a safe, organized, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. Scrubs for routine and complex procedures. Consistently demonstrates aseptic practice as defined in AORN Recommended Practices. Assures that OR’s are completely stocked and always prepared for emergency procedures, i.e. C-sections or laparotomy for bleeding. Prepares the labor and delivery rooms by setting up beds and tables and ensures the area is prepared for additional patient care. Maintains the sterility of instruments and rooms according to established policies and procedures. Assists in ordering and stocking of supplies and ensures that levels are maintained at the appropriate amounts. Provides assistance in preparations for procedures and the clean-up afterwards. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The Obstetrics Technician practices safety precautions throughout the perioperative phase of patient care. Handles all “sharps” in a safe and protective manner in consideration of self and others in supportive roles, such as, core techs, environmental services, and CPD staff. Participates in “time-outs” prior to the start of the surgical procedure according to hospital policy guidelines. Verifies medications, concentrations, expiration dates of all medications received on the sterile field in concert with the circulating RN. Handles and dispenses medications, irrigation solutions, and flushes (e.g., epi: 1:1000, local anesthetics, antibiotic irrigation) to surgeon within the sterile field. Handles, prepares, and dispenses hemostatic agents (e.g., thrombin, tisseal, floseal) to the surgeon within the sterile field. Accountable for the disposal of all bio hazard materials and sharps. Job Description The Surgery Department Certified Surgical Technologist will support the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s operating room (OR) and Greater Cincinnati’s only Level I Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. The major focus is on the scrub role but may also include an assistant circulator role under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Is able to second circulate under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Preparation of the surgical suite and advanced understanding of the procedures being performed. Ensures correct counting of instruments, needles and/or sharps before during and at the closure of the patient. Maintains and ensures operational readiness of instruments and equipment, departmental supplies, and sterilized items. Checks for outdated equipment and reports as needed. Knowledge of advanced surgical techniques for the team on which he/she is based, plus an ability to move between teams with ease. This may include transplant, trauma, vascular or robotics, neuro and spine and complex orthopedics procedures. Knowledge related to emergency situations and ability to assist or first scrub on advanced team related procedures and has been oriented and proficient in first scrubbing a trauma and can take call without problems or issues. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of the surgeon and resident/fellow and how to incorporate the learner into the procedure, facilitating a good learning experience. The must also be able to precept other Surgical Technologist's and/or other scrub personnel as needed in the procedures of his/her team and to help as a resource if called upon. Ensures and maintains competency on all new equipment and technology, and can act as a super user if needed. Establishes and maintains positive customer service relationships. Anticipates customer needs to continually improve service and quality of patient care. Respects the patients' right to privacy, dignity, and safety. Participating member on Unit Based Council or other hospital-based committee.

What You'll Be Doing The Registered Nurse (RN) Provides professional nursing cae within the Emergency Department to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Provies direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. The ability to triage safely, rapidly and accurately, every patient that enters the ED. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the department. Communicate with the physicians about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. What We're Looking For Full-time, Night shift, 12-hour shift, 7pm to 7:30am. Rotating Weekend Saturday and Sunday Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred Current Registered Nurse New Jersey State license. BLS, ACLS and PALS and/or, ENPC within 1 year of hire. A minimum of 8 hours of education every two years in basic trauma assessment intervention and stabilization. At least 1-year RN ED work experience in a hospital setting is required to qualify for the $10,000 sign-on bonus. Position Responsibilities · Assists in position and transferring of patients. · Prepares, maintains, and monitors sterile set-up. · Dispose of linens, gloves, and sharps in appropriate containers. · Prior to case, checks function of equipment and instruments. · Reports broken equipment/instruments to charge nurse of the service and the core desk. · Assures maintenance of sterile field until dressings are applied, x-rays are taken, and/or patient is out of the room. · Points out break in sterile technique of self and/or team members to the RN circulator immediately. · Handles contaminated items in appropriate manner by placing them in red bags or linen bin. · Replace equipment and supplies used intra-operatively ensuring that they are in good working order. · Insures completeness of instruments trays before and after case. Removes all instruments from sterile drapes. · Demonstrates knowledge of proper care and handling of specialty instruments. · Establish and maintain a neutral zone when passing sharps on the sterile field to prevent exposure/injury to self and others. · Adheres to personal protective equipment protocols at all times. Wear eye protection when scrubbed at the field. · Identifies and labels all medication on back table. · Inspects sterile packages, containers, and trays for integrity prior to placing on sterile field. · Check case supplies according to surgeon’s preference list. · Maintains current CPR status and surgical technician certification. · Assists surgical services assistants with room turnover by disposing of surgical debris in biohazard bags. · Identifies specimens verbally when passing them off to the circulator. · Facilitates and monitors patient safety by providing a safe environment. · Removes and put away unused supplies and sutures after each use. · Demonstrates competence and specialize in at least 1 major service, demonstrating competency, willingness and flexibility to work in other services as needed. · Demonstrates willingness to precept as needed. · All other duties as assigned.
