Works closely with all affected personnel: OR supervisors, OR Manager, HCL staff and Director of Anesthesia. * Obtains permits for catheterization procedures after teaching patient/family about procedure and related complications. Collects and documents data related to patient’s response to procedure and changes in condition according to hospital policy. Documentation of data is entered in appropriate medical records. Demonstrates age-specific competency in assessment of patients by the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the treatment needed. Circulates in procedures following AORN guidelines/standards. Assists at bedside in preparing patient for each procedure. Applies critical thinking during catheterization procedures in the delivery of direct patient care and in analyzing response to medications and treatment, prioritizing intervention based on continual assessment. Utilizes appropriate telephone etiquette. Develops individualized patient/family plan of care using CPG/ND’s, and practice guidelines/protocols to meet identified needs. (Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on care, education, discharge needs.) Utilizes assessment data from the healthcare team to individualize appropriate goals and actions for the patient, including collaboration with the family and the healthcare team. Utilizes individualized assessment data to develop the patient/family’s plan of care. Formulates goals and outcomes based on assessment data. Revises plan of care based on patient’s condition, interdisciplinary input, and family needs. Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient interventions based on assessments/reassessments Implements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs. Documentation reflects accurate assessment/evaluation, modification, and patient’s response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures. Entries in the medical record follow hospital policy (i.e., date, time, use of appropriate abbreviations, and legibility). Documentation is completed within established timeframes including, but not limited to: Admission Assessment form, daily Patient Flowsheet, Peripheral IV Flowsheet, Family Education Record, and Interdisciplinary Goals. Reviews and updates computerized careplan to accurately reflect the plan of care. Completes computerized documentation within established timeframes, including, but not limited to: Medication Administration Record, Allergies, Patient Information, etc. Completes and verifies accurate order entry in the computerized careplan. Ensures that discharge instructions clearly state patient care needs after discharge. Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) healthcare team. This is a 24-hour direct patient care unit with 6 private patient rooms. Patients admitted to the PICU are likely to be those with acute medical disease states. Our patients range in age from newborn to 19 years of age. We primarily care for patients with respiratory distress/respiratory failure, sepsis, status asthmaticus, DKA, status epilepticus, and post op Neurosurgery or other post-operative patients requiring ICU care. This includes patients with invasive monitoring (arterial lines, ICP monitoring, EVD monitoring), surgical drains/chest tubes, invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support, tracheostomies with vent support, vasopressor requirement (epinephrine, dopamine, vasopressin), and/or continuous sedation requirement (versed, fentanyl, precedex etc). This is a supportive close-knit team where the patients and their families are the center of our care. Schedule: 7:00 PM-7:30 AM/36 hours per week Every third weekend rotation MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Utilizes the nursing process to complete the admission physical, cognitive, spiritual, psychosocial, and functional patient assessment. Develops and implements a plan of care (including goals) that is reviewed and revised on an ongoing basis. Develops, reviews, and implements the discharge plan upon admission, and throughout the patient stay. Implements nursing care activities according to patient needs or as directed by the medical provider in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performs point-of-care lab testing as per established policies and procedures.
