Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability. Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible. Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC. The RN is an expert in assessing and treating and evaluating patient conditions specific to their work area, e.g., anxiety, pain, claustrophobia and underlying disease conditions. Due to the complex nature of pain, RN will evaluate and treat pain in a prompt, caring fashion and reassess after each intervention, charting per UCMC protocol. RN maintains hospital required nursing & ICU unit specific competencies needed to provide proficient nursing care; RN will provide continuity of care for infant, pediatric or adult patients based on area of specialty. This includes assisting in the care of critically ill patients during sedation/procedural encounters. Administering high-risk infusion and transfusion (i.e. chemotherapy medicines). Qualifications: ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card within 3 months of hire. Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred. Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program. The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) will perform primary nursing functions of assessing, planning, directing, performing, and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Room to patients of all ages suffering from various types of illness or trauma that requires emergency attention. Essential Job Functions: Demonstrates ability to manage care within the established standards of nursing care and practice as defined by the state of Indiana and required by hospital accrediting bodies. Initiates care to stabilize patient and assists in managing life support needs by collaborating with Physicians and Clinical staff, demonstrating appropriate admission, discharge, and transfer procedures. Provides high quality and high satisfaction bedside care and administers treatments under the direct supervision of the Physician, anticipating patient needs and responding accordingly. Accurately and concisely documents services provided within the medical record in a thorough, timely manner. Collects laboratory samples and performs lab testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to perform laboratory Quality Controls and Assessments, and routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function according to Laboratory policy and procedures. Participates in QAPI activities including participation in accreditation preparation and survey process and maintenance of accreditation, state, and CMS standards. Attends and participates in all applicable facility meetings, training, and development workshops, and reviews/understands all required policies and procedures. Ensures proper supplies, appropriate medical equipment and medications are available for patient care and par levels meet patient and facility needs. Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse, in good standing, licensed in the state of Indiana. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital Emergency Department. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, or ENPC required.
