What You'll Be Doing Main Function: The Nurse Practitioner is prepared to deliver primary health care, including but not limited to: recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries in the Emergency Department setting, some of which may be determined by protocol; provision of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on the early detection and treatment of disease, as well as prevention. Assesses plans and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Full-Time, Day shift, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm What We're Looking For Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN, and Master’s degree in advanced clinical practice nursing or graduate of post Master’s certificate program for nurse practitioner. (required); (preferred) Work Experience: 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred. Two years full time as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner; five years preferred. Knowledge of healthcare procedures; Counseling/advising skills ; Decision-making and problem solving skills; Interpersonal/human relations skills ; Ability to maintain confidentiality ; Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories; Knowledge of health education theory and practice; Ability to maintain quality, safety, and / or infection control standards; Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures; Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise; Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements; Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Prior MediTech experience helpful. Licensure/Certifications: Current NJ Licensure as a Registered Nurse; Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in specialty areas as required with prescriptive authority; PICC certification preferred; BLS, ACLS, PALS optional; Must be credentialed through Medical Staff Office. Description A nursing student, who has completed the first clinical year, inclusive of medical – surgical nursing, within a baccalaureate nursing program and has a fundamental knowledge of the art and science of nursing, can function in this role. This experience assists the student nurse in expanding previously learned theory and skills through supervised patient care within a work setting. Responsibilities Role & Responsibilities: A nursing student, who has completed the first clinical year, inclusive of medical – surgical nursing, within a baccalaureate nursing program and has a fundamental knowledge of the art and science of nursing, can function in this role. Performs and records patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, pulse oximetry and pain rating. Documents clinical data as assigned, in a computer or manual system. Performs clinical procedures, such as specimen collection, venipuncture, EKG, application of sequential compression sleeves, post-mortem care, maintenance of skin integrity and capillary blood glucose monitoring. Sets up for selected procedures and assists RN's accordingly. Assists patient with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, and/or toileting. Orients patients to Specialty Service/Unit environment. Assists patient with ambulation and all levels of mobilization. Assists with dietary functions, including delivering and collecting patient trays at bedside, passing menus to patients and assisting them with menu completion, mixing nutritional supplements, reporting variation in eating patterns to RN/Dietitian. Maintains accurate and timely systems for transmission of patient dietary orders and changes. Assists in pre- and post-operative procedures, such as patient transport, completion of pre-op checklist and reception of patient from PACU/OR. Utilizes measures to insure patient safety and promotes a restraint free environment. Maintains use of restraints for patients under the direction of a RN and according to set policies and procedures. Provides care to the deceased as well as the involved family/significant other. Assists the professional registered nurse in the collaborative plan for patient education participating in patient/teaching activities. Maintains a safe, clean and functional environment, including ensuring for the comfortable movement of the patient. Assists the patient in room maintenance, such as bed-stripping and trash removed, when necessary. Performs one-to-one observation of patients on constant observation status, e.g., for safety, elopement, or suicide prevention. Performs correct infection control techniques and maintains isolation status for patients under direction of a RN and according to set procedures. Performs One-to-One/Constant Observation and Safety Observations of patients as ordered, e.g., for safety, elopement, or suicide prevention. Transports patients to stretchers or wheelchairs, as required. Operates the pneumatic tube system when required. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Requirements: Education: High School Diploma / Associate Degree. BLS from American Heart Association required. Completion of the first clinical year in an accredited baccalaureate program in Nursing, with experience in a medical surgical rotation. Grade point average of 3.5 or above. Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Critical Care Transport Team (CCTT) Staff Nurse is to safely move patients requiring PCU or ICU level of care within the University Hospital and Rutgers campus. The CCTT RN prioritizes transport requests based on acuity and workload logistics. The CCTT RN will utilize the Acuity Checklist for Critical Care Transport form to determine who will accompany the patient during transport and what equipment will be needed. The CCTT RN will require a thorough and complete SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation) report, in person, from the primary care PCU/ICU RN managing the patient. The CCTT RN will complete their tasks with compassionate consideration of the patient’s requests and those of their family. The CCTT RN will utilize the Inter Transport Patient Data Form to chart the appropriate data as it applies to the individual patient’s circumstances. The CCTT Nurse takes immediate action in emergency situations and responds to patient needs during transport. Upon arrival, the CCTT RN will give a complete and thorough SBAR report to the receiving RN and will assist in the safe transfer of care. All transfers will be conducted with emphasis on preventing skin breakdown and the secure positioning of lines, tubes, and drains. The Professional Registered Nurse is a member of a designated care team and collaborates, coordinates and guides team members in the plan of transfer and safe transportation of their patient. Responsibilities Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and any required or requested ancillary testing including but not limited to vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram testing and respirator fit testing Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.) Assist providers during examination and treatment Responsible for performing routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician as well as triaging emergent patients as needed Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating clinician Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices as well as testing processes used in the center Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms Maintain and operate all medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures Notify supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or facility is not operating as expected In partnership with center leadership, assist with patient flow and volume Keep patients informed of expected wait times during all aspects of the center visit Responsible for clerical tasks in both the front and back office associated with patient care and proper record keeping Ensure accuracy in documentation Perform front office duties: greet patients, obtain authorization, check in/out, communicate wait times, answer multi-line telephone system, and distribute employer results/paperwork as needed Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance throughout the facility Complete any applicable training including but not limited to clinical competency training that occurs monthly This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who, through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician, is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that include ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self – evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self- directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in Employee Health Services, under the direction of the Director Employee Health, is responsible for assisting in coordinating the overall activities of the Employee Health Services of University Hospital. The APN is accountable for assuring quality medical care to UH employees by performing comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and prescribing pharmacologic and non – pharmacologic treatments, as well as addressing the behavioral aspects of illness and disease. The Employee Health Services APN ensures that personnel working at University Hospital are in compliance with Federal, State, Local, TJC, New Jersey State Department of Health and all other regulatory agency requirements, standards, and regulations. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Assists in maintaining monthly statistics on tuberculosis exposure/screening, hepatitis screening, rubella exposure/screening, Aids exposure/screening and of employees seen in the Employee Health Clinic. Conducts surveillance and follow up of employee exposures to communicable disease. Is responsible for giving complete and comprehensive pre-employment physical examinations and documenting findings on the Medical Record accordingly. Administers employee physicals, provides injury related diagnosis, or other types of referrals according to OSHA regulations. Provides consultation regarding Workers’ Compensation, Infection Control, or other employee health related issues. Facilitates the whole health care rendering process for University Hospital employees from entry to return-to-duty. Maintains the privacy of the patient and the confidentiality of the Medical Record. Must be able to accurately assess those employees who present for treatment and initiate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey and Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing. Master's Degree required. At least two (2) years’ of related nursing experience required. Experience in Worker’s Compensation, Employee Health Screening, BLS certification is required. Preferred: FMLA protocols preferred. ACLS certification preferred.
