About the Role

The primary purpose of the Critical Care Transport Team (CCTT) Staff Nurse is to safely move patients requiring PCU or ICU level of care within the University Hospital and Rutgers campus. The CCTT RN prioritizes transport requests based on acuity and workload logistics. The CCTT RN will utilize the Acuity Checklist for Critical Care Transport form to determine who will accompany the patient during transport and what equipment will be needed. The CCTT RN will require a thorough and complete SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation) report, in person, from the primary care PCU/ICU RN managing the patient. The CCTT RN will complete their tasks with compassionate consideration of the patient’s requests and those of their family. The CCTT RN will utilize the Inter Transport Patient Data Form to chart the appropriate data as it applies to the individual patient’s circumstances. The CCTT Nurse takes immediate action in emergency situations and responds to patient needs during transport. Upon arrival, the CCTT RN will give a complete and thorough SBAR report to the receiving RN and will assist in the safe transfer of care. All transfers will be conducted with emphasis on preventing skin breakdown and the secure positioning of lines, tubes, and drains. The Professional Registered Nurse is a member of a designated care team and collaborates, coordinates and guides team members in the plan of transfer and safe transportation of their patient. The competent practice of the Professional Registered Nurse is evidenced by patient/family goal achievement, patient/family satisfaction, care and services demonstrated and thoroughly documented in accordance with American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organization Standards Sentinel Event Alert Recommendation, Patient/Family Centered Principles, Department of Health Standards and University Hospital Policies and Procedures. As professional licensed staff and member of an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Professional Nurse exemplifies the behavioral expectations articulated for this role. The Critical Care Transport Nurse is assigned to the Radiology Department.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • The RN demonstrates skill in using special equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, O2 equipment, and ventilators. The RN is responsible for provision/maintenance of required emergency equipment.
  • Recognizes and intervenes in emergency situations, i.e., contrast media reactions, loss of airway management and general changes in the patient’s condition by following approved policy guidelines and documentation of patient’s status and nursing interventions in the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Policies & Procedures: Contributes to the achievement of excellence in the department through the adherence to productivity, quality assurance, customer service, and code of conduct standards established by the department or organization. The RN attends required in-services and actively participants in self education as evidenced by personal job performance.
  • Assists with quality improvement and risk management programs. The RN participates in the development and evaluation of policies and procedures in the Radiology Department.
  • Promotes a professional atmosphere by adhering to established dress codes, which includes wearing the hospital ID badge as observed by management staff.
  • Contributes to the time management of the department by being punctual to work and in completion of assignments. Adheres to department and hospital attendance & lateness policies as observed by management staff and review of attendance record.
  • The RN practices cost containment by demonstrating mature judgment, initiative, and proficiency in nursing skills.
  • The radiology RN will prioritize patient needs and nursing responsibilities within the department. The RN performance record will show the completion of tasks in an effective efficient manner while controlling unnecessary overtime.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the NJ State Board of Nursing. ACLS/BLS certification are required. Critical Care experience required.
  • Ability to employ problem solving techniques and critical thinking.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required.

Preferred:

  • Ability to organize care/activities of multiple patients. IV Certification is preferred.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is UB/01D: $46.46 - $55.46- $63.82 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
