Department Overview The Pre-Surgical Assessment Center is a team working prior to hospital arrival with all patients and families to ensure a consistent, comprehensive preparation for surgery. We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner to join our pre-surgical team. The pre-surgical team is led by APPs who care for surgical patients during their preoperative preparation and coordination for their upcoming surgery. The team covers numerous surgical specialties and partners closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the pre-surgical team to offer high quality, high value, specialty-based care. They are an integral part of their patients' pre-operative course. Position involves rotating coverage at our surgery centers in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Minnetonka. .8 FTE Monday – Friday Pre-surgical nurse practitioner role involves caring for patients before a surgical procedures, including conducting comprehensive assessments and physicals, managing pre-operative testing, educating patients, and care coordination. Key duties include collaborating with the surgical team, optimizing patient readiness, managing pre-medication needs, and ensuring a smooth transition of care on the day of surgery. Pre-surgical responsibilities · Comprehensive assessments : Conducting thorough patient assessments and reviewing/completing medical histories. · Pre-operative testing/care coordination : Ensuring all necessary tests and evaluations are completed before surgery. · Patient education : Informing on how to prepare for day of surgery · Collaboration : Working with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other staff to optimize patient readiness. · Risk management : Identifying and addressing potential risks or concerns before surgery. Qualifications Current MN RN/APRN license Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. Master’s Degree required; Doctorate preferred. Nationally Board Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with either the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Current BLS certification. The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is a 1,932 licensed bed facility, Level III Trauma Center, Stroke Center and Level I Cardiac Center. Between our two adult emergency departments, approximately 50,000 patients are seen with close to 14,000 admissions annually. In our pediatric emergency department approximately 23,000 patients are seen annually accounting for 3,000 admissions. Our PAs and NPs serve as integral members of a multidisciplinary team providing excellence in emergency medical care. In addition, the PA/NP coordinates care with consultant services, recommends follow-up care, facilitates referral to various internal and external facilities and takes part in multidisciplinary continuous quality improvement. Our UMMC Adult Emergency Medicine provider group includes about 40 physicians and a growing number of PAs/NPs. Patients are seen in both the West and East Bank Emergency Departments, which house over 50 beds. Our group is focused on providing high-quality patient care and expanding the academic focus of the University of Minnesota Medical Center. We work with several learners at various stages in their medical education.
