About the unit The Medical Observation Unit consists of 54 beds. Patients are categorized as Observation secondary to insurance requirements. This is a medical unit. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department with mental status changes, long term placement needs, pain, cardiac, TIA, r/o CVA, UTI, pneumonia, geriatric, and behavioral issues. If patients meet criteria for higher level of care they will be transferred to the assigned progressive or inpatient unit. Staff complete an assessment and shift documentation according to the Observation documentation policy. There is rapid patient turnover on this unit between patient discharges and transfers. May complete 1-4 discharge, transfers, and assessments during a 12 Hour shift. Responsible for coordinating all training activities [on-site training courses, workshops and webinars] including accessing appropriate personnel and resources; conducting planning meetings and introducing courses; selecting co-facilitators as needed; preparing announcements; coordinating materials; monitoring program and/or seminar progress in order to evaluate content and faculty. Responsible for program planning which includes estimating costs, monitoring expenses, managing budgets and other financial resources and analyzing trends and making projections for future financial requirements. Reviews and analyzes evaluation results for future program planning. Assists with developing, and administering capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives.Implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances. Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints. Ensures the attainment of objectives through the selection, development, training and evaluation of nursing education staff. Ensures that all nursing education services activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal, and governmental regulations and laws. Maintains clinical and industry knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Performs other related duties as required and directed. Qualifications: Required: Current state license to practice as a registered nurse. Bachelor's degree in nursing. Five years of education experience. Progressive leadership experience in nursing education. Preferred: Master's degree in nursing or related field. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Instructor. Demonstrated success in strategic development of nursing education models. Experience in incorporating technology into education and a true passion for teaching. Leadership experience in a magnet designation academic medical center. Certification in Nursing Professional Development.
