The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to the residents and supervises the day-to-day activities performed by the Nursing Assistants. The LPN is responsible for carrying out the physicians’ orders, including, but not limited to: Medication administration, treatments and resident assessments. Additionally, the LPN communicates changes in the resident’s condition to the physician, the Unit Director and the resident’s responsible party. The LPN is responsible for maintaining medical record information as described by unit and facility policy. The LPN works with multiple departments and outside agencies to promote continuity of care for each resident. Education : Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Experience : 1 year preferred with long term care. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations : Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a LPN in Florida Current Florida Basic Life Support certification. Specialized Knowledge and Skills : Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Possess the ability and willingness to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, physicians, associates from multiple departments in and out of NFCH, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to LTC. Possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise personnel. Possess the ability to plan, organize, develop implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. Have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as willingness to handle difficult residents and families. Be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to cooperate them into existing nursing practices. Able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition. Not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
