Burn Quality RN Specialist - Burn Program - Full Time Days

We are looking to add a full-time, Burn Quality RN Specialist to our award-winning Burn Program. Summary: The Burn Quality RN Specialist reports to the Burn Program Director and provides quality surveillance through event identification, investigation, reporting and follow up of loop closure for the burn patient population at Grady Memorial Hospital. They collaborate with physicians, consultants, and multi-disciplinary team members to assure high quality patient outcomes across the continuum of care. They assist in coordinating the routing activities associated with the burn registry (Burn Care Quality Platform [BCQP]), including data gathering, data abstraction/entry, coding, data analysis, data validation/maintenance and report production/creation. In addition to serving as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies, the Burn Quality RN Specialist supports relationships with, and submission of data to, the American Burn Association (ABA), Georgia Department of Public health (GDPH), and Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma (OEMS&T), for maintenance of national verification, as well as national benchmarking. Job Responsibilities: Data Abstraction – 45% Completes concurrent and retrospective data abstraction on burn registry cases – including reconciling data as information becomes available (i.e. autopsy reports, meeting minutes)- in compliance with routine data submission deadlines established by BCQP and OEMS&T Supports data validation efforts including data scrubbing and correcting as needed using routine inter-rater reliability (IRR) review, report running, and data drilldowns. Identifies data inconsistencies and develops methods to correct and mitigate. Identifies all burn admissions, transfers and deaths using clinical identifiers and strict inclusion/exclusion criteria as outlined by the know governing bodies including the ABA and OEMS&T and provides concurrent and retrospective burn patient tracking while maintaining various file types and logs. Exhibits proficiency in report running and writing to support PI efforts for the Burn Program Performance Improvement – 45% Identifies performance improvement opportunities using surveillance method outline in the Burn Performance Improvement in Patient Safety (PIPS) plan, via quality assessments/audits, and through communication with clinical staff. Leads assimilation of needed programmatic changes. Incorporates information from the PIPS Program into the burn registry (i.e. updating injury information, complications, and fluid resuscitation when needed) and presents these cases at meetings pertinent to the same. Acts as a liaison and facilitates multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary department communication/collaboration between the Burn Program and all patient care areas and subspeciality providers. Responds to specified burn activations and rounds on burn patient in accordance with programmatic needs Uses industry best practices to optimize operational processes for daily/weekly/monthly/yearly burn registry and Burn Program functions Supports burn specific in-servicing, injury prevention, outreach and research efforts as needed Professional Development and Continuing Education – 5% Serves as a mentor/coach to facilitate and support learning needs of burn data roles while consistently exhibiting capacity to communicate effectively with the team to influence change Exhibits high levels of emotional intelligence Takes an active responsibility for learning in alignment with identified learning needs; routinely participates in burn educational offerings including monthly/annual registry updates offered by the ABA. Also participates in the ABA Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Georgia Committee for Trauma Excellence (GCTE), relevant hospital, state, and national meetings and conferences. And, support the team in submitting abstracts annually to burn related conferences Maintains 8 hours of burn registry related continuing education units (CEU) annually Maintain knowledge of current burn and trauma trends/developments by reading appropriate literature, attending related seminars, and internal educational offerings Applies expertise in burn care to facilitate patient care as needed Other Duties as Assigned – 5% Performs other duties as prescribed by Burn Program Leadership to support the goals and mission of the Burn Program Education: Required : Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred : Master's Degree in Nursing or health related field Experience: Required : Five (5) or more years job related experience including RN experience caring for either Burn patients (i.e: ICU level care to to outpatient setting) or high acuity patients in ED or ICU setting.
