This position, also, provides technical assistance to surgeons by anticipating and passing instruments, assuring the functioning of instruments, and keeping instruments free of debris during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents, and other solutions. Removes equipment from surgery room, and follows proper procedure to dispose of contaminated equipment and supplies. Assist with prep of patients, as needed. Counsels patients concerning lifestyle modifications, medication regimens, side effects, and interactions using an appropriate psychosocial communication level Communicates to clinics coordinators follow-up appointments, ancillary and/or pre-operative testing and scheduling needed for patient Arranges patient admissions; coordinates ordering of tests/procedures with fellows, attending, and other nursing staff Assists physicians in coordination of research programs by screening patients for acceptance into clinical research and outcome programs.
