We Are Hiring: Registered Nurse (RN)- ICU- Waukesha Memorial Hospital- 0.6 FTE- 12 Hr Nights Waukesha Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit is a 24 bed, multi-specialty unit including cardiovascular, neuro-surgical, medical respiratory, sepsis, drug overdoses, suicide attempts, a variety of other surgical, and trauma. This team works with adult and some pediatric patients. The ICU intensive care unit at Waukesha Memorial Hospital has earned a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The award recognizes unit caregivers for successfully improving patient outcomes and aligning unit practices with AACN standards. Units that receive this three-year award meet national criteria consistent with other national quality awards, such as the National Quality Healthcare Award. Waukesha Memorial is one of only two hospitals in Wisconsin to earn the silver-level Beacon award. (2013). Schedule Details: This 0.6 FTE commits to 24 hours per week of 12 hour night shifts 1900-0730. The candidate is required to work every third weekend and alternating holidays. At least 1 year of ICU experience preferred. This is not a seasonal or temporary position. What You Will Do: The Clinical Nurse is a competent practitioner who integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical experience in the care of patients and families. Care is delivered using a deliberate, systematic approach and practice is guided by increasing awareness of patterns of patient responses in recurrent situations. These nurses demonstrate a mastery of most technical skills and begin to view clinical situations from a patient and family focus as they provide professional nursing care within clinical areas/ campuses as required by staffing matrices. These nurses also supervise and direct delegated nursing acts commensurate with educational preparation and demonstrated abilities of the person supervised. Ability to effectively prioritize the transfer based on patient acuity and clinical information presented and following established hospital workflows and protocols. Often must actively participate in difficult or critical situations. This individual must be able to employ problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment. All discussion pertaining to the transfer request are to be documented in EPIC as part of the transfer documentation. Constantly collaborates with physicians, nursing, admitting, and hospital patient flow to ensure that patients are transferred in a timely manner, meeting the hospital standards. Work closely with hospital patient flow to strategize patient placement to ensure that patients are placed in the right location and optimize the occupancy for each hospital. Cooperates and communicates effectively with other team members in order to accomplish the workload. The individual will also facilitate consult requests from outside facility provider with Froedtert & MCW physicians. Actively participate in the conference call, document for the provider's behalf and attend to transfer needs that results from the consultation. When working shifts between 0000-0800, the individual is also cross trained to assist with patient phone triage when needed. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: A minimum of 4 years of nursing experience, in which at least 3 years is in acute care nursing is required. Previous critical care or ED experienced as a RN is preferred. You will be responsible for all safety, infection control, and quality of care issues that might arise while on duty, as well as, assisting with performance appraisals, mentoring staff during orientation and handling disciplinary issues.
