POSITION SUMMARY : Nurse practitioner will work in with our outpatient thoracic surgery team. The Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with thoracic surgeons to provide comprehensive care for patients in both the preoperative and postoperative settings. A licensed and credentialed Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up under the direction of 1 or more physicians in the clinic. The NP performs age and specialty appropriate physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. As an expert professional, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. Current BLS and ACLS Certification. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of current clinical nursing experience required. Prior experience in similar clinical setting/specialty preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Expert clinical judgment and ability to be self-directive and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Full command (verbal and written) of the English language. Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning to provide effective patient and/or family education. Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work. Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with the various members of the health care team, patients and families. Performing under the direction of the RN/LPN and as a member of the unit-based patient care team, the Certified Nursing Assistant/Unit Coordinator (CNA/UC) performs duties of direct and indirect patient care. The direct patient care tasks include but are not limited to activities of daily living, vital signs, glucometry, EKG’s, weights and Intake/Output data collection. Indirect patient care activities include, but are not limited to, transport, restocking and/or obtaining patient care supplies. In addition, the CNA /UC is responsible for responding in a timely manner to the needs of patients and family members and taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit. They function within policies, procedures and guidelines of Sturdy Memorial Hospital in accordance with Joint Commission, CDC and OSHA standards. In addition, the CNA/UC will perform clerical, receptionist and unit coordinating duties on individual patient care units. Each Respite Aide is responsible for two teams. Qualifications : Long term chronic care PCA and MCU PCA: Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred in good standing upon hire or current enrollment in a nursing school, having completed first clinical experience. RSU PCA: Certified Nursing Assistant certification is required in good standing upon hire and on-going. Fluent English skills required – verbal and written Computer literacy required Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively Must complete mandatory HSL/HRC educational requirements and programs Pass PCA skills test with 70% or greater V.
