Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Office Nurse Practitioner works under supervision and clinical guidance of the practice physician(s). Overview Function as an independent nurse clinician in the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery division to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. Provides education for staff and community and assists with research programs. Responsibilities Answers the Triage line, records calls, and functions independently to apply standard orders appropriately. Returns Patient and Physician phone calls in a timely manner. Determine the technical adequacy of each test and independently assesses appropriateness of each patient’s testing based on established policies and protocols. Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prepares accurate, readable report of the test; contact physician when necessary. Assess health education needs of patient to provide ongoing evaluation of necessary instructions. Coordinate additional care for gynecologic patients to include follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician’s orders, and hospital admissions. Maintain testing forms, statistics, documentation, and collaboration with other health care providers to formulate a plan of care for the patient. Assist with and maintain ongoing knowledge of billing and insurance protocols. Provide education to other staff members regarding testing and care of surgical patients. Act as a liaison between patients and community health providers. Actively participate in research through data collection and development of ideas. Serve as public relations representative to the community. Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care which includes validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Nursing Supervisor. Promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures. Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests. Provides education to patients on pre and post-op care. Recognize and communicate abnormal post-op findings with the providers. Sustain the quality assurance of patient charts. Monitors clinical supply levels for the entire facility and place orders when needed. Performs venipuncture tasks. Completes patient’s FMLA and disability forms. Reviews and completes provider requests for referrals to specialists. Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned, to include medication authorizations.
