Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting
  • Initiate and document  appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assess patient and family needs and provides education
  • Promotes/provides staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations

Overview The purpose of this position is to coordinate and support the medical needs of patients pursuing Pediatric Otolaryngology service. The position will partner with faculty physicians and residents in Otolaryngology to provide excellent clinical care and customer service for patients with Otolaryngology disorders. This position interacts with other care providers to deliver appropriate, timely care and patient education. In addition, the position will establish and maintain systems and relationships to ensure a smoother care transition from the clinic setting to outside care providers. The position will work in conjunction the Divisions faculty providers and nurse manager to continuously improve coordination of patient care and administrative systems. The position will be active in patient care through Pediatric Otolaryngology offices operated by the Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters with office locations in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Newport News. Responsibilities Provide outpatient care and medical management as directed for a variety of Pediatric Otolaryngology diagnosis. Orient residents and nursing staff to departmental treatment guidelines and protocols and monitor compliance in an effort to decrease practitioner variability, decrease cost, improve quality and patient satisfaction. Provide initial and follow-up continuity evaluation and management services to patients as assigned; provide initial consultation services; provide continuity follow-up services. Provide family education for a variety of Otolarngology disorders. Participate in the development of clinical pathways/care plans/guidelines/protocols in conjunction with faculty. Assist Pediatric faculty members with in office procedures. Facilitate communication between faculty and residents and nursing about care plans and outpatient follow-up plans. Collaborate with clinic nursing staff to triage medical calls from patients, referring and primary care physicians. Provide pre and postoperative treatment education to families. Coordinate scheduling and referrals. Perform Other Duties as Assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Nurse Practitioners must have a MSN with a nurse practitioner focus. Must be a licensed RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing and a certified nurse practitioner. Physician Assistants must be licensed as a PA in the State of Virginia. Prior experience in Otologaryngolgy related services is preferred but not but required. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with public, partners, customers, and co-workers; while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals. Ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met. Meets attendance/punctuality requirements.
