All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Responsibilities: 1. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations. 2. In the psychiatric setting, aids patients in reality orientation, participates in behavior modification plans/therapy, provides informal support therapy to patients/families, provides verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients, aids in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients, facilitates age appropriate play for children, and monitors the therapeutic milieu activities on assigned unit to ensure that emotional and safety needs of patients are met. 3. Observes, collects, and documents patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician. 4. Provides assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge 5. The UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a free-standing surgical facility, with 8 OR’s. Our department includes 9 Preop roomettes, 12 PACU bays, and 10 Short Stay Unit (SSU) Rooms. Our surgery center supports the following services: Orthopedics (Sports), ENT/OHN, plastics, general laparoscopic, general oncology, pediatric urology, urology and dental. BLS required, ACLS and PALS preferred. This position will support the Short Stay Unit and will cross-train to PreOp and PACU. The schedule will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 6:00am - 6:00pm. In addition, scheduled to work two Saturdays in a 6-week period (6:00am - 12:00pm) to discharge patients who stayed overnight Friday. Job Description Summary Uses the nursing process with at-risk patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical strategies leading to quality results, optimal cost/utilization and patient experience. Works across the care continuum to support patients in addressing the following dimensions of care: clinical management, education/knowledge, psychosocial needs, self-management, advocacy, and continuity of care. Establishes an ongoing, therapeutic relationship with the patient/family to improve access, reduce burden of disease, manage care transitions and increase use of appropriate access points of care.
