Glendive Medical Center offers a summer nursing internship program to eligible nursing students who are entering their final year or semester of their Nursing program. This is a paid nine (9) week internship providing an opportunity for students to gain experience, competency, and confidence as they move into their nursing careers post-graduation. During this internship you will have the opportunity to job shadow Acute Care, Emergency Room, Behavioral Health, Transitional Care (skilled rehabilitation unit) and Extended Care (Long Term Care Facility). The intern will be paired with an RN preceptor during each rotation. The internship is a commitment of 36-40 hours per week. Schedules will vary with day, evening, overnight and rotating weekend shifts. There will also be opportunities for the individual to get extra hours while working as a CNA if the applicant has an interest. Minimum education and work experience: Currently enrolled in a Nursing program and entering into your final year or semester of the nursing program. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will plan, direct, and evaluate resident and employee health care in ambulatory health services; examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses; performs selected laboratory testing; offers referrals to physicians, write prescriptions, and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. The Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner will also collaborate with a physician in the care and treatment of patients. Duties/Responsibilities: Examine new patients to orient them about services, to identify needs and treatment plans Sees ambulatory patients in the health services office for laboratory testing, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic and acute episodic illnesses and minor injuries. Refers to physician as needed. Writes prescriptions and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Schedules follow-up visits in office or unit as needed. Performs physical examinations (pap tests, etc.). Coordinates health promotional activities (providing printed information, routine testing, flu shots, mammograms, etc.). Performs staff employment physicals, TB testing, etc. Examines staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries. Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health of patients and staff. Maintains outpatient records. Records statistics and conducts research as deemed necessary by the institution. Compiles reports concerning ambulatory care at facility. Collaborates with staff to identify patients' needs and to help develop plans to meet these needs. Responsible for timely completion of documentation in patient records.
