Primary responsibilities of the Surgical Technician include: Prepare and set up surgical instrumentation and equipment according to department standards and surgeon preference cards. Maintain a sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are ready and functioning properly. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures, providing instruments and supplies promptly. Perform hand and arm scrubs in accordance with departmental policies, donning sterile gown and gloves, and setting up instrumentation and equipment as per guidelines. Conduct surgical counts with the circulating nurse at designated intervals, assisting surgeons with gowning, gloving, and draping after skin preparation, and safely passing instruments, sponges, and sutures during procedures Maintain the sterile field and ensuring team adherence to sterile techniques, verifying and preparing medications and solutions for use within the sterile field, and accurately tracking their usage. Proper handling and identification of specimens, providing safe and dignified patient care, assisting with dressings and casts, and careful management of instrumentation. After procedures, responsibilities extend to preparing instruments for cleaning and supporting operating room cleanup following Universal Precautions. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with best practices and technological advancements. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position floats to various units within the UCLA Health system based on the patient census and the skills of the staff. BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB A specially trained individual who helps prepare for surgical patients by selecting and preparing the supplies and instruments. Assists the surgeon under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs transport duties within the perioperative departments. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates proficient understanding of sterilization processes, steam, gas and cold and its impact on various instruments and equipment by providing mechanism to identify what type of sterilization is necessary on existing and new instruments. Researches and Reports abnormalities of instruments and equipment that facilitates the running of the unit to the OR Director and/or other appropriate individuals, and sends instruments and equipment out for repair following all guidelines, maintaining a record of what is out and when the items will be returned. Provides literature or necessary interventions on equipment specific sterilization when appropriate. Reviews case cart set ups daily in a thorough manner to detect accuracy and completeness. Transports patients by stretcher, wheelchair or other conveyance from pre/post operative locations. Responsible for monitoring and responding to patients and families during transportation phase. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Assures staff competency by creating and providing training. Offers constructive suggestions at staff meetings for utilization of equipment, repair of equipment and proper care of equipment. The Pharmacy Implementations team covers all LOBs Molina has to offer (Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace) across all US time zones. Successful candidates will be accustomed to effectively managing 3-5 projects at a time. With the nature of implementations, candidates should be willing to work occasional weekends and holidays to support the 1-3 go lives a year. Pharmacy experience is not required; project and program management experience is needed. Managed Care experience is also preferred. Plans and directs schedules as well as project budgets. Monitors the project from inception through delivery. May engage and oversee the work of external vendors. Assigns, directs and monitors system analysis and program staff.
