Dedicated Cardiac Respiratory Therapists Our unit has dedicated cardiac respiratory therapists who are specifically trained in managing the complex needs of our cardiac population, including post-operative and high-acuity patients. Education and Simulation Resources We provide multiple cardiac-specific didactic courses each year, including Post-Op Emergencies, Cardiac 101, Cardiac 102, and Cardiac Neonatal. The team also participates in mock codes and high-fidelity simulation training, allowing staff to practice rare but high-risk scenarios in a controlled, team-based learning environment. Innovative learning methods, including team-based simulation exercises and scenario-based “escape room” training to strengthen critical thinking, teamwork, and rapid response in high-risk situations. Patient Ratios and Assignment Structure Patient assignments are determined based on patient acuity and nurse competency tier: 1:1 for immediate post-operative patients 2:1 for ECMO patients 1:2 for stable cardiac patients Assignments are matched to both acuity and the nurse’s competency tier to ensure safe and appropriate care. In collaboration with medical providers, the RN provides pre-operative and post-operative nursing care. The RN serves as an advocate for patients to support an unparalleled patient experience. What you will do in this role: Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures or other functions as ordered by the medical provider. Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner. Perform the administration of prescribed medications and monitors response. Maintain a knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment used in the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients. What qualifications you will need: Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Responsibilities Using independent judgment, the Procedures Nurse maintains the delivery of quality care by assuring the nursing care plan is followed. The Procedures Nurse will supervise Nursing Assistants, students, and orientees within the Procedure/OR Department. Manages and maintains procedures within Select Specialty Hospital which include both bedside procedures and procedures in the OR/procedure/exam room including but not limited to: Endoscopies, PEG insertions, J tube placement, Bronchoscopies, Chest tube insertions, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Cystoscopies, Tracheostomy, Simple debridement (includes PICC, CVL, temporary HD catheter and hemodynamic monitoring devices) arterial line insertion, Moderate Sedation monitoring, prevention of, monitoring for and management of malignany hyperthermia. Adheres to all operative, invasive procedure policies, standards, and relevant bundles. Follows all documentation procedures and reviews physician documentation to ensure compliance. Performs all non-procedural duties when assigned such as Central line care, PICC insertions, assisting with wound care, Admissions, Patient teaching, IV care and insertions, Patient transport. Maintains and implements cost containment measures. Initiates communication with the Chief Nursing Officer in areas that require feedback. Participates as a member of the QAPI and Infection Control Committees. Provides and ensures new staff with orientation, training and development. Provides timely in-services on an as needed basis. Provides medication control in close collaboration with the Pharmacy department. Maintains applicable departmental logs and records including but not limited to: Pre-operative, Intra-operative and Post-operative records, daily log, surgical/procedural log book, temperature log, humidity log, sterilization log and specimen log. Maintains equipment and sterilization procedures Manages all aspects of the procedure room and any activities that go on inside it. Manages all activities related to decontamination, processing, sterilization and storage of supplies and instruments. Handles all scheduling and supervision of invasive procedures. Monitors medication and controlled substances. Monitors/Manages all procedure room emergency equipment. Manages inventory of supplies needed for procedures. Performs infection control management. Provides pre, intra and post operative patient assessment and monitoring, reports and manages changes in condition and complies with other policies and standards of care to prevent and manage adverse events Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Requires a valid State Registered Nurse License. BLS required. ACLS required or completed prior to end of orientation period (90 days).
