Nursing Responsibilities: Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients by providing the following: Administer medications Perform medical intakes and asses if patient is fit for incarceration, as needed Respond to sick call requests and follow up with the medical provider when needed Check and/or change medical dressings as required by the medical provider Performing 14-day physicals Managing chronic care Providing patient education on health concerns Responding to medical emergencies Be capable of performing life saving measures and ability to take charge and give direction in an emergency Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including but not limited to drug reaction/overdose, formulary/non-formulary medications, and knowledge of medication costs Be able to provide insight and direction to Medically Trained Personnel, as needed. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs as the circulating nurse and patient advocate during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative period. Adheres to basic aseptic technique principles in performing nursing care in the operating room. Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff. Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs. Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome; modifies the plan of care based upon the evaluations. Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes. Delegates unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care/support activities. Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult situations. Reassesses patient systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and recognizes and responds to patient emergencies. Participates in orientation of new staff/students on the unit. Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning. Participates in the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance. Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians/providers, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously. Assumes relief charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness. Maintains professional currency by attending seminars, scheduled departmental meetings, and outside educational offerings. Performs other duties as required.
