This individual will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, dedicating his/her specialized practice to cardiac patients located in either the cardiac intensive care unit, on our telemetry floor or in our post anesthesia cardiac unit (cardiac PACU). The APRN or PA will also be involved with cardiac babies delivered on site in our advanced delivery unit. Our patient population ranges from newborns to young adults with congenital or acquired heart disease. Our surgeons perform all of the complex cardiac repairs, including definitive neonatal surgery, adult congenital surgery, and heart transplantation. They utilize all forms of mechanical support (VAD’s, ECMO, ECLS) as an adjunct to our very active heart failure and pulmonary hypertension service. This position will include working some night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Essential Responsibilities Obtain medical histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret laboratory data, and prescribe management and medications on patients admitted to our inpatient service. Present patients on rounds, write daily progress notes, collate inpatient records, and complete discharge summaries using the electronic medical record. Assist in the preoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients. Provide continuity of care when coordinating care with other members of the health care team. Highlights: You will join a team of 7 attending Physicians, 7 Nurse Practitioners. The unit is covered 24/7 by 2 Mid level providers. The Hours of coverage vary 7a-4p, 4p-8a, and 7a-8a. Your shifts will vary throughout the month. Weekend and holiday coverage is expected. There are (3) 25 hr shifts of weekend time per month. Usually, one Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is call associated with this position - It will vary, minimum of 6 calls per month. Shifts will vary according to need. The PNP is responsible for a practice that demonstrates a high level of autonomy, clinical decision making and advanced skill in management and treatment of complex illnesses in the critical care environment. The PNP provides leadership and clinical support for the interdisciplinary team in the PICU/CCU/SCU, engages in research and quality management activities and, participates in multidisciplinary educational activities. Procedures expected to perform in the hospital setting: Endo tracheal Intubation, Arterial and Central Venous Line Placement, Chest tube placement, Bedside Procedural Sedation, Spinal Taps Average number of patients seen - We have a 26 bed PICU that also houses Cardio Thoracic and Burn Patients.
