Job Description Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Inpatient Oncology APP Team. The Advanced Practice Provider will be responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management and will manage a caseload of patients by exercising autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The APP will provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, and clinical support, as well as complete administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The Inpatient Oncology APP Team is an APP-staffed service with the support of a Hematology/Oncology Attending. After an orientation period, the APP will work autonomously and collaboratively with the rest of the APP team, attending, and pharmacist to manage inpatients on the service. The team rounds in the morning and the APPs present patients with their assessments and plans. APPs then carry out the plan for the day, calling consults, placing orders, admitting expected and unexpected admits. This candidate will be trained in the management of both hematologic and solid tumor malignancies, as well as oncologic emergencies (eg neutropenic fever, tumor lysis syndrome, cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity due to therapeutic agents, DIC, HLH, sepsis, and cord compression). Hospital medicine is a fast-growing medical specialty, comprised of physicians and APPs whose primary role is to provide comprehensive medical care to hospitalized patients. These physicians, called hospitalists, help patients through the continuum of hospital care, often seeing patients in the emergency department—and, if admitted, following them into the acute care or critical care unit and organizing post-hospital care. Hospitalists are board-certified in internal medicine and do not have an outside private practice. Instead, they choose to manage the care of hospital inpatients, including those in the intensive care unit. Hospitalists have a host of responsibilities ranging from daily patient monitoring and ordering tests and procedures, to following up on treatment and coordinating care between the hospital, primary care physicians and specialists. Hospitalists also consult with patients and other physicians before and after surgery, creating a safer and more effective healing environment for our patients. Interested candidate will join a talented and extensive cardiology team. WHAT WE NEED: Ideal candidate will be a Cardiovascular Advanced Practice Provider with proficiency managing adult patients with acute and chronic heart failure in both office and hospital settings. Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner preferred but will consider Adult/Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with heart failure/cardiology experience. Candidate will display exceptional interpersonal skills and desire to develop strong ties with the community and existing medical staff. The Advanced Practice Provider will need to work collaboratively with all providers and staff members within our Cardiology service line to coordinate and deliver the highest quality of patient care. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Current State of Indiana Physician Assistant Licensure required. Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or other agency recognized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) required. Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program required BLS and ACLS certifications required. NURSE PRACTITIONER: Current State of Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) / Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure required. Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program. BLS and ACLS certifications required.
