Screens physician documentation or order entry for timeliness, appropriateness and completeness as pertains to the utilization management process including level of care, medical necessity, and third-party payer requirement. Documents in the electronic medical record (EMR): clinical reviews (medical necessity), payer authorizations, avoidable days, readmission risks, continued stay reviews and potential discharge date. Utilizes other application tools to document including Veracity, Optum, InterQual, Milliman, etc. Facilitates peer to peer reviews with payer/providers. Actively participates in clinical case review/rounds with the interdisciplinary team regarding continued stays review/LOS outliers, Collaborate with providers/physician advisor when medical necessity and/or appropriateness of care is questioned, in accordance with established SOP procedures. Maintains current knowledge of hospital utilization review processes and participates in the resolution of retrospective reimbursement issues including appeals, PACER authorization, third party payer certification, and denied cases. Assists with monitoring the effectiveness/outcomes of the utilization management program, identifying and applying appropriate metrics, evaluating the data, reporting results to various audiences, and designing and implementing process improvement projects as needed. Department: Medical Intensive Care Unit Daily Work Times: 7:00pm-7:30am Shift: Nights Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours: 72 Position Summary: Collaborates with physician to provide a plan of care that will return the patient to optimal health. Provides bedside nursing care and carries out medical orders. Delegates to and oversees Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate, OB Care Associate, Surgical Service Assistant, Nursing Clerk and Psychiatric Tech functions. Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of care plan. Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Assumes responsibility for a leadership role encompassing: Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice. Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care. Facilitates/participates in patient conferences. Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences. Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community. Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel. Precepts/mentors new employees and students. Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments. Qualifications Qualifications - External Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan. BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.
