Responsibilities* The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) is a 20 bed tertiary care center receiving patients from state, regional, national and international referrals. PCTU specializes in the medical and surgical care of infants, children, adolescents and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Our goal is the provision of exemplary nursing care embracing a philosophy of family centered care empowering families to participate in the decision making and care of their children. The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit nurse cares for patients in a technology intensive environment including ECMO, CRRT and VAD's. They are required to perform complex physiologic patient assessments in a high intensity environment for high acuity patients with rapidly changing status. Our patients undergo the most progressive surgical and catheterization interventions. Our nursing staff practice in close partnership with the cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and fellows providing individual support and education to families and patients throughout their intensive care unit admission. PCTU will be expanding by 9 beds in the spring of 2027 Required Qualifications* Current Michigan Registered Nurse License. 12-24 months of current pediatric acute care RN experience PALS certification is required (or within six (6) months of date of hire) or MUST be completed prior to end of probationary period . Our BMT program, one of the largest in the country, is internationally known for research to make transplant safer and more effective. All nurses on this unit receive required, hospital based training, competency check off for chemotherapy administration and EKG interpretation training. In Order To Transition To a CRNA, The Following Criteria Must Be Met Successful completion of the National Certification Exam (NCE) within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program Failure to pass the NCE exam within 45 days of graduation will result in termination of the intern position. The candidate is eligible to apply for other positions for which they are qualified. Michigan Nurse Anesthetist Specialty certification documentation initiated and provided as soon as possible following successful completion of the NCE. Successful completion of credentialing and privileging at Michigan Medicine. Satisfactory performance in the intern role. RN Intern title will be changed to graduate CRNA and pay adjusted based on collective bargaining agreement (CBA) following confirmation of meeting all criteria above. Once the Intern transitions to graduate CRNA, they will begin a six month probationary period.
