Responsibilities Under general supervision, provides high quality support to physicians in meeting the medical needs of the patient. Escorts patients to and from exam rooms and readies them for physicians; takes vital signs, records medical history/symptoms, ensures medical chart/lab test results are available and complete. Performs telephone triage, patient education, handling of physician phone calls, pharmacy calls; may assist by calling to set up appointments or arrange hospital tests or admissions. Administers immunizations and minor treatments as prescribed; records and documents all such activities in the chart. Assists physician with procedures as necessary. Cleans and stocks all patient examination rooms; cleans and prepares instruments for procedures; keeps list of needed medical supplies. Completes paperwork such as ordering lab tests, x-rays, school/work notes, etc. Clean and sterilize equipment; check and restock medication cabinet as necessary. Respond to patient questions and concerns as liaison between physician and patient. Reports all test results to the patient as directed by the physician. Performs OSHA controls as required. Assist in performing narcotic count. Performs other projects and duties as related to department objectives. Must be able to get along with others, to be a team player, to accept constructive criticism from your supervisor and be able to follow work rules. Utilizes current nursing practices to provide patient care while focusing on the needs of the patient and exemplifying service excellence, care, concern, respect and cooperation. As a member of a health care team, functions in the role of patient advocate by being in the position of initial contact for patient-related issues. Additional duties as assigned. Perform routine charting duties as required & in accordance with established charting & documentation policies & procedures. Prepare & administer medications as ordered by the physician. Develop & maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Receive/give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours. Make rounds with physicians as necessary. Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required. Monitor your assigned personnel to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies. Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering the resident’s room. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Licensed Practical Nurse with current unencumbered state license. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
