JOB SUMMARY: The LPN will be responsible for greeting patients, activating patient files and providing support to patients and medical staff. Our full-time team members work a rotating 36-40 hour/week schedule, consisting of 12-hour weekday shifts and every-other weekend. Our PRN (per diem) team members are scheduled on an as-needed basis. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. • Greeting patients and preparing them for examination or procedure. Recording health history of patient and noting abnormal conditions for physician. Instructing patients on collection of any necessary samples and tests. Obtaining vital signs and escorting patients to rooms. • Assisting with the preparation of supplies and equipment and aiding the physician or mid-level practitioner during treatment, examination, and testing of patients. • Giving injections, administering prescribed medications as directed by physician and in accordance with nursing standards. Observing, recording, and reporting patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. • Ensuring that patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely matter and forwarding charts as appropriate. Maintaining patient files, records, and other information. • Assisting with scheduling of tests and treatments. Arranging referrals to a specialist and obtaining pre-authorizations when directed to by the provider. • Collecting, documenting, and delivering lab specimens and obtaining lab test results and other reports. • Notifying patients of test results and follow-up appointments. • Cleaning and restocking exam/treatment rooms between procedures. • Following clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste materials. • Instructing patient and family regarding medications and treatment and discharge instructions. • Assisting the provider with physical exams and in preparing for physicals. • Contacting pharmacy to order prescriptions and notifying patients. • Keeping an accurate and up to date inventory of medications and monitoring controlled substances. • Controlling inventory and monitoring the use of supplies. • Maintaining up to date stock and monitoring and maintaining medical equipment. • Responding to and screening telephone calls for referral to nurse or physician. Triaging patients to ensure productive departmental flow. Overview The Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) will have competence to care for patients in the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Cardiac Stepdown Unit. This RN will work with a team of physicians, other nurses, patient care techs, and other professionals from various departments of the hospital such as Laboratory, Radiology, and Respiratory Therapy. This RN is part of a team that provides care for traumatically injured patients and critically ill patients suffering from life threatening conditions such as Heart Attack or Stroke, as well as cardiac, post-surgical, respiratory, and psychiatric diagnoses. This RN works alongside the team with the common goal of providing compassionate, quality care to a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to geriatrics within a fast-paced environment. This RN will assess and monitor a wide array of health conditions and injuries, administer medications, and perform procedures such as moderate sedation, intraosseous and intravascular therapy, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This RN will routinely evaluate episodic and acute responses to broad classifications of physical and psychosocial conditions, as well as manage the planning and implementation of interventions. The RN will utilize the nursing process in the provision of care and will practice within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and the policies, procedures, and standards of the Health System. Overview The Short Stay Outpatient Unit (SSOU) is a fast paced environment where multidisciplinary services are provided for patients needing a vast variety of treatments. This unit’s normal hours of operation are Monday – Friday day shift, but coverage is also provided on weekend day shifts on an as needed basis. Treatments are provided to patients with a variety of needs and who are sent by physicians from numerous disciplines including but not limited to Primary Care, Hematology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, and Obstetrics. The SSOU Registered Nurse (RN) will provide treatments to include but not limited to the administration of chemotherapies and biotherapies, blood products, ESAs, IV antibiotics, iron, and hydration. The SSOU RN routinely performs therapeutic phlebotomies, CVL care, and wound dressing changes. SSOU RNs are highly autonomous and work in a team nursing environment. All RNs are expected to become chemotherapy certified within a year of employment and to consider national certification if not already certified. The RN will utilize the nursing process in the provision of care and will practice within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and the policies, procedures and standards of the Health System.
