Job Summary : The Nursing Administrative Coordinator resolves problems that require an administrative decision or intervention in conjunction with hospital policies and procedures, and collaborates with Clinical Directors, associate administrators, and department directors in decisions that affect patient care and hospital functioning. In addition, the Administrative Coordinator is called on to assist in clinical event management when necessary. Accountabilities • Represents the hospital, and when appropriate, responds to patient, visitor and hospital personnel issues. • Provides both clinical and managerial mentorship to unit charge nurses in the absence of unit leadership. • Manages hospital emergencies, working with the Administrator on Call to optimize outcomes. • Collaborates with the CDs, Nurse Managers, and charge nurses on the allocation of clinically competent staff based on units’ census, NHPPD algorithm, and patient acuity. • Provides oversight and guidance to the assignment of resources for performing constant observation to patients • Supports nursing division in balancing financial models to achieve budget targets and organizational objectives. • Coordinates and responds to unusual events, such as mass casualty, floods, bomb threats, fires and radiation exposure. • Participates with Bed Management to determine bed availability and prioritization of bed assignments. • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in nursing 3+ years of direct patient care 1+ years Nursing supervisory experience. We are seeking exceptional candidates that have recent hands-on critical care experience as you will be the primary responder with the Rapid Response Team. The Nursing Clinical Coordinator actively participates in a collaborative/consultative/supportive role with the Chief Nursing Officer and Clinical Directors to assure efficient patient flow and quality patient care. Nursing Clinical Coordinator also works collaboratively with the Bed Management RN and the Nursing Administrative Coordinator. Responsibilities: Facilitates patient flow and efficient/appropriate patient placements. Supports use of the NaviCare tool in communicating tentative and finalized pending discharges/transfers, EVS requests, bed requests, bed assignments, hallmarks and other functions. Coordinates staffing of the inpatient units and the emergency department on a day-to-day basis with the staff in the Nursing Network Center. With guidance from the Nursing Administrative Coordinator, he/she assumes full responsibility for staffing functions from 1600 - 0700 hours, Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays, including making software (computer) and operational adjustments to projected staffing for levels of care, staffing guidelines, low census, sick calls and staff competency. Follows fiscal and Human Resources policies in determining staff utilization and distribution. Primary nursing responder in the Rapid Response Service. Promotes system and individual approaches to care, which ensure patient satisfaction. Responds to all clinical emergencies on the HUP campus - inpatients, outpatients, and visitors. Rounds on all inpatient care units to identify and prevent patients from needing ICU upgrades. Facilitates critical care nursing skills at the bedside in a non-ICU setting. Provide clinical support to nursing staff and promotes collaboration with the care team to provide the best patient care. Serves as a resource for implementation/ interpretation of hospital and nursing policies and procedures. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges. Kelemen 8 can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. First Pre-Admission Testing, located in 3 Cooper calls to review a patient’s health information prior to a surgical procedure.
