Department EMERGENCY ROOM NURSING - 806230 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift First Shift (United States of America) Pay Grade Job Description The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. They responsible for quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. Also directs, coordinates and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. A RN II is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, any unit specific competencies that are identified by the Director/Designee as it relates to the patient population of their unit as well as completion of the Professional Practice Ladder requirements which include: Assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, PI Activity and department initiatives, communicates and shares information to Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committee, a Valley Health paid Education/Seminar/Conference workshop or Nursing Article. Portfolio is current and submitted to Director/Designee annually by March 1st. Routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review for unit and develops bulletin board or poster that provides educational information to staff/patients/family members. Education Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) is required. Bachelors Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Experience Advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 full-time or part-time hours (936 if hold BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation. Certification & Licensures RN license required. Based on the primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia and West Virginia Boards of Nursing regulations, the candidate must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state of work assignment (Virginia and/or West Virginia) with either: A multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC); or A single-state license valid in the applicable state of work assignment (Virginia or West Virginia only). BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Relevant Specialty Certification is preferred. You will work in a fast-paced, structured environment within a mental health hospital, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support patients through stabilization and recovery. This role requires strong clinical skills, emotional resilience, and a commitment to patient advocacy. What to Expect in This Role Daily Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration, monitoring for side effects, and assessing changes in patient behavior. Conduct patient assessments to evaluate mental, emotional, and physical health needs. Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Support de-escalation efforts, utilizing therapeutic communication and crisis intervention techniques. Regular use of nonviolent crisis intervention techniques to manage escalations Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays based on patient needs. Introduction We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person-centered supports to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals. The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living. The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education. GRADE ASTD15 LOCATION OF POSITION MDH, Potomac Center/SETT 1380 Marshall St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 Main Purpose of Job Duties This position shall discharge LPN duties of an intermediate nature including continuing alertness to individuals' health status in compliance with sound nursing practices and judgment and applicable center policies and procedures.
