We Are Hiring: Nurse Intern -Waukesha Memorial Hospital 5MED- 0.4 FTE (Flexible Shifts) The Medical Unit (5MED) at WMH is a fast paced, 53 bed unit serving a variety of patient populations. The staff here provide care for patients with a diagnosis of Sepsis, Acute/Chronic Respiratory conditions, including but not limited to: Trachs/Vents, Cellulitis, Urinary Tract infections, chronic conditions such as COPD, Heart Failure, Diabetes, patients on Dialysis, and acute drug and alcohol withdrawal. Our staff are also well prepared to care for medical patients with mental health conditions and those patients with Dementia. There are approximately 120 staff on the unit, including: RN’s (tenured and new), CNA’s, Nurse Interns, Health Unit Coordinators, Staff Development Specialist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Charge Nurse, Assistant Manager, and Manager to provide full support to the staff. Schedule Details: Must be able to work every other weekend and a holiday grouping rotation. What You Will Do: Under the supervision of the registered nurse, the Nurse Intern collects objective data according to the clinical practice and theory obtained from nursing education and in orientation. Utilizes this objective data and works under the supervision of the registered nurse in providing nursing care grounded in the ANA standards of nursing practice. May administer medications under the direct supervision of the RN after completing Pharmacology course (or equivalent content) in school. The Nurse Intern must be a nursing student entering the final semester of a registered nurse program or an individual having completed a nursing program but not yet obtained state licensure to practice as an RN. Obtains clinical knowledge and technical skills while working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse i.e Clinical Nurse 2,3 or 4. You Will: Be a nursing student entering the final 9 months of a RN program or an individual who has completed an accredited nursing program but has not yet received registered nursing licensure. Be currently enrolled in, or a graduate of, an accredited school of nursing. Current employees must have an overall highly valued rating on their last performance review. If enrolled in a nursing program, must meet the following: Be active in the nursing program, without discipline. Submission of a recommendation letter by a clinical instructor from the candidate’s school. Submission of a clinical education skills checklist from the candidate’s school. Submission of a current transcript (may be unofficial). The nurse intern must have passing grades in all nursing courses. Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital (OMH) Birthing Center is a Level 1 community hospital unit with 12 LDRP’s. The unit cares for a variety of populations, including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, GYN, Pediatrics, and transitional newborn care in our Special Care Nursery. We see approximately 900 patients annually. In additional to providing specialty services for women and children of all ages, the department also provides other services, such as, but not limited to, lactation and resolve through sharing (RTS) perinatal loss support. OMH Birthing Center has over 30 staff members working as Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Health Unit Clerks. ​ Hours: This .9 FTE commits to 36 hours per week, schedule is three 12 hour night shifts 1900-0700. This position may float between both Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and Waukesha Memorial Hospital locations. There is a weekend and holiday rotation. This is not a seasonal or temporary position.
