Responsibilities: GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of leadership, is accountable for provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards. Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level. Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services and assumes an expanded role which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Performs and documents patient care, medication administration, care plans, and patient education in a competent and efficient manner, following all policies and procedures. Identifies patient problems and collaborates in developing a plan of care based on existing standards and long-term goals. Implements age-specific, culturally, and spiritually competent nursing interventions to address patient/family needs and response to procedures, therapies, and medications. Evaluates basic and complex patient/family response to procedures, therapies, and medications, identifying concerns/issues and revising plan of care based on patient and/or family response. Recognizes changes in patient status and responds effectively. Communicates change in patient status to appropriate members of the care team. - Maintains positive relationships with all members of the healthcare team. Resolves conflict positively and in a timely manner, working directly with co-workers to address issues. Treats patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, and respect for diverse view points and cultures. Communicates effectively in written, verbal, and non-verbal interactions with healthcare members, patients, and families. Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and assignments to meet patient and unit goals. - Engages in continuous learning. Demonstrates responsibility for learning to improve self and performance, including progress toward achievement of annual goals. Accepts and acts on constructive feedback from leadership, peers, and colleagues in a positive manner. Identifies and implements educational opportunities for staff. - Reviews and evaluates evidence from literature and best practice standards for application to patient and unit needs. Assists with collection of data to support unit performance improvement activities. - Other duties as assigned.
